In winter 2025, Ryanair will base a third aircraft at Newcastle Airport and launch five new routes to Brussels, Budapest, Gdansk, Malta and Wroclaw, as well as extra flights to Alicante, Dublin and Krakow.


easyJet will open a new base at the Airport in spring 2026, which will support around 1,200 UK jobs, including 130 direct roles.


The airline will also launch 11 new routes, including a brand-new direct service to Nice.


The base opening will enable easyJet to expand its network from Newcastle with new routes.

About the role:




An exciting opportunity has arisen for people to join our fantastic team of Air Traffic Controllers.


We would like to hear from you if you are an:


Experienced dual rated ADI/ APS Air Traffic Controller Officer (ATCO) or
An experienced single rated ADI or APS ATCO



Additionally, Expressions of Interest (EOI) from the following groups would also be welcome:

CAA Student ATCO Licence holders or Candidates currently self-funding ATCO Courses.



In this role, you will involve providing a safe, orderly, and expeditious Air Traffic Control (ATC) service to all aircraft operating within Classes D and G airspace within the vicinity of Newcastle International Airport.


You will ensure that all ATC services are delivered in full compliance with UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulatory standards, as well as Newcastle International Airport's local procedures, including CAP 493 (MATS Part 1), MATS Part 2, and the airport's Safety Management System. Your role will be integral to maintaining and enhancing the safety and efficiency of air traffic operations at one of the UK's busiest regional airports

Required Skills & Qualifications:




This is a critical role within our airport, therefore there are

specific qualifications and experience

candidates must hold in order to undertake the duties:

Hold a valid UK CAA Air Traffic Controller's license with ADI and/ or APS rating and must validate this at Newcastle as part of their continued employment. If you are currently only single rated, you must be prepared to undergo training to become dual rated and hold both ADI and APS validations. Have a valid CAA Class 3 medical. Hold a Full Clean UK Drivers' License.

Role Responsibilities:



Achieving a safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic within the airspace for which they are responsible when providing either an approach radar or aerodrome service. Providing aircraft with all necessary meteorological and other information required for the safe and efficient conduct of their flight. The passing of serviceability reports and navigational warnings as required in addition to tendering all possible assistance to aircraft in emergency or distress. Operating to achieve compliance with the procedures detailed in Unit Operating Instructions including those pertaining to opening and closing operational positions, taking over an operational position and unserviceable equipment and facilities. Understanding and compliance with departmental Integrated Management System & Quality Management System. Compliance with Departmental Instructions and other Operational Instructions. To undertake in-house and external courses as required to meet both the required regulatory training standard and personal development. Maintenance of ATC Licence and associated medical requirements.
