Job Advert Description

Openness and transparency are vital to public confidence in policing, and members of the public have a right to know about the policing matters they care about. As an Alliance FOI Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring that we uphold this right and meet our legal requirements relating to information access.

As part of the Alliance Information Management Department, this specialist role is responsible for ensuring that information requests are handled appropriately under the FOI Act 2000. The post holder will make decisions with the support of the FOI team and FOI Manager to balance legal and reputational risk with the information access rights of the public.

No two days are ever the same, with request topics ranging from speed camera locations to service performance, information about serious crime, and everything in between. This varied role presents new and exciting challenges every day and will give the post holder an insight into what our communities care about. Due to the nature of some of the requests the Force receives, you may be required to look at sensitive and potentially distressing information, so please take that into consideration when applying for this role.

As well as developing a host of transferable skills, there will be opportunities to undertake training and development in a variety of areas, including completing a nationally recognised FOI practitioner certificate if this is not already held.

Based at either Middlemoor HQ (Devon & Cornwall Police area) or Winfrith HQ (Dorset Police area), the successful candidate will benefit from flexitime and opportunities to carry out their role from home, their base location, or elsewhere across the two Force estates in a hybrid arrangement, subject to a successful probation period and business need.

Applications are welcomed and encouraged by people from all backgrounds. If you would like to discuss any specific requirements or reasonable adjustments, please do let us know.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • the ability to extract key points from complex or convoluted pieces of information.
  • to be able to work independently and as a team player, asking for and providing support and assistance where required.
  • to be able to organise your workload, whilst maintaining the ability to be flexible and take direction when shifting priorities dictate.
  • to be competent with the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Outlook, Word and Excel, and able to learn new or bespoke systems as required.
  • integrity and professionalism, with the confidence to challenge where appropriate and necessary.
  • the drive to do your best, delivering work that you are proud of to agreed standards and timescales.
What you\'ll get in return:
  • Flexitime, providing flexibility and greater work life balance.
  • Hybrid working to allow you to work from home or the office, in a way that works for you and the organisation\'s needs.
  • A competitive salary with yearly increments.
  • 24 days a year leave entitlement, with an increase to 30 days after 5 years continuous employment, plus bank holidays (pro rata for part time workers).
  • Sick pay allowance, variable in accordance with length of service.
  • Local government pension scheme.
  • Supportive training and mentoring, including with IT and systems.
  • Access to the Blue Light Card Scheme for discounts and services.
  • Support networks, free Employees Assistance Programme, including for immediate family, and Occupational Health and wellbeing services.
  • Continuing Professional Development.
  • Access to Force gyms.
