Role Summary
As an
Ambulance Technician (Tech/AAP) at ZAM FM
, you will work alongside an Emergency Care Assistant and/or clinically qualified practitioner, responding to:
High dependency transfers
Non-emergency PTS journeys
Potential 999 emergency calls
You will attend a wide range of accidents and emergencies, sometimes over significant distances, under both normal and emergency driving conditions, ensuring you reach scenes
quickly and safely
.
You will:
Provide
high-quality patient care and safe transportation
to and from designated destinations.
Transfer very unwell patients between hospitals or to specialist centres.
Deliver essential emergency care such as:
Controlling severe bleeding
Treating wounds and fractures
Caring for patients with potential spinal injuries
You will be based at one of our stations, working
shift patterns
in all weather conditions, at all hours, including motorways and confined spaces. As well as direct patient care, you will interact with relatives, bystanders and other members of the public, especially during larger or serious incidents.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Primarily support the clinician you are working with (e.g. paramedic), while
always prioritising the patient's care and wellbeing
.
Assist with clinical, practical, social and emotional care in unscheduled/emergency environments.
Ensure the correct equipment and environment are prepared for assessment and treatment.
Attend to patients in the rear of the ambulance where appropriate, in line with
Medicines Management policy
.
Immediately request the vehicle be stopped safely and escalate to a clinician if a patient deteriorates or causes concern.
When not working with a paramedic, promptly inform dispatch and help decide the safest clinical plan (e.g. clinical support, RV point, ED).
Safely manage and escalate higher-risk categories (e.g. active cardiac chest pain, GCS ?12, maternity cases, severe bleeding, airway issues, recent seizures, very young patients) in line with clinical guidance.
Drive in a
smooth and safe manner
in accordance with:
Traffic laws
Ambulance driving training
The Highway Code
Maintain constant contact with
ambulance control and dispatch
.
Clean, restock and check vehicles to ensure they are
roadworthy, legal and clinically stocked
.
Complete
timely, accurate documentation and reports
.
Adhere to all relevant
Codes of Conduct, company policies and clinical standards
.
Undertake any other reasonable duties required by ZAM FM.

Entry Requirements
To be successful as an
Ambulance Technician (Tech/AAP)
you will need:
A
valid UK full B category driving licence
with
no more than 6 penalty points
.
A
valid IHCD Technician Ambulance Aid
or
Associate Ambulance Practitioner (AAP)
qualification.
A
valid IHCD Ambulance Driving
or
Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving Level 3 (CERAD 3)
.
Maths, English and one other GCSE at grade C or above
, or equivalent.
Previous
customer / patient-facing experience
.
Demonstrable working knowledge of
dealing with patients
in challenging or varied environments.
Sound
knowledge of the Highway Code
(tested at assessment).
Good
communication skills
, emotional resilience and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
This role also requires:
An
enhanced DBS check
(processed/verified by employer).
An
in-date safeguarding qualification
appropriate to the role.
