Job Description

Based at North Weald with travel around Essex & Hertfordshire

Contract type: One year contract - can be directly employed or seconded with agreement from your NHS trust

Salary: Matched to Band 5 / 6 - dependant on current level

Hours: 22.5 hours per week over 3 days

About us:

Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, unlike NHS emergency services, is a charity. The free life-saving service is provided 24/7 by helicopters and by rapid response vehicles.

Each critical care team consists of a pilot and co-pilot, a pre-hospital care doctor and a critical care paramedic.

They can be rushed to the scene with life-saving support equipment to deliver advanced clinical care, usually only available in the hospital emergency department.

Once stabilised, the patient will be conveyed to the most appropriate hospital by air or land.

Without access to National Lottery funding and with only limited support from Government, we rely upon the generosity and goodwill of the people and businesses of Essex and Hertfordshire to remain operational and keep saving lives...we can't fly without you!

Job purpose:

As part of our ongoing commitment to improving outcomes from cardiac arrest, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance has developed a comprehensive strategy that embraces every element of the Chain of Survival in resuscitation.

We are now delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Paramedic, Nurse, Ambulance Technician or equivalent with significant hands-on experience in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the Clinical Community Lead to support the delivery of our CPR Smart Programme for Schools, launched in Autumn 2024.

The CPR Smart Programme aims to empower and educate 'School CPR Champions'-- teachers and sixth form students--so they can confidently deliver CPR training to pupils in both secondary and primary schools across Essex and Hertfordshire. By providing dedicated training and clinical guidance, our team helps remove barriers to CPR education and builds confidence among those teaching these vital life-saving skills.

Since 2020, CPR has been part of the National Curriculum across the UK. However, despite enthusiasm from schools, many teachers have expressed uncertainty or hesitation about delivering CPR training. Our programme directly addresses these challenges through structured support, practical demonstrations, and confidence-building sessions informed by peer-reviewed research.

Our 2023/2024 pilot confirmed the positive impact of this approach, aligning with published evidence and providing valuable insights into future opportunities for community engagement and education.

This is an excellent opportunity for a clinician with a passion for education, public health, and community outreach to help shape the next generation of life-savers.

Summary of duties and responsibilities:

Collaborate closely with the Clinical Community Lead to shape and develop the CPR Smart Programme, ensuring it continues to evolve based on evidence, feedback, and best practice. Provide ongoing mentorship and support to School CPR Champions, helping them gain confidence and maintain high standards in CPR delivery. Maintain accurate digital records to track engagement, training progress, and the overall impact of the CPR Smart project. Enhance the programme's visibility and reach by contributing to the development and growth of CPR Smart's social media presence. Create and share engaging digital content including photos, short videos, and testimonials from students, schools, and the wider community to promote CPR awareness and celebrate success stories. Support broader Clinical Community initiatives, including CPR training for nonclinical EHAAT team members and other community groups. Contribute actively to EHAAT's charitable mission, representing the organisation professionally and positively across all platforms and community interactions.
