Our Laboratory Animal Science department comprises of several distinct animal facilities, each with a specific focus based on species and/or study type. The LAS team is made up of staff across various grades and levels of experience. Unlike many other establishments in the industry, our team members receive extensive cross-training and are proficient in a wide range of techniques and procedures across all species housed within the facilities.
Role Overview:
The focus of this role is the conduct of husbandry procedures for all laboratory species on site. This will include feeding, watering, bedding and cage changing. You will also be involved in delivering essential care and well-being services to the animals including positive reinforcement training.
Other duties include routine cleaning of the animal rooms and equipment and assisting experienced Animal Technologists with technical procedures. The Support Technician, depending upon ability, may also be trained in many other tasks.
The role has good, clear progression routes where you can be trained to perform more technical procedures. We are also open to supporting you in gaining the Institute of Animal Technology (IAT) qualifications and your Home Office license.
The role will require you to be flexible in working hours and will involve working on alternate weekends. We are looking for candidates who are genuinely committed to working with animals. The work can be physical and because of our flexible working hours, we do seek people who can get into work with their own transport.
Skills & Experience:
Some understanding of animal behaviour, anatomy, and welfare is desirable, but full training is provided -- ideal even for recent graduates.
