UCL Department of Chemical Engineering is one of the top research and teaching departments in the UK and has world-class standing. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and has an extensive research portfolio across a wealth of areas, from molecular scale to complex systems.



This post sits within the Advanced Propulsion Lab (APL) in the Marshgate Building at UCL East, with 800m2 of collaborative research laboratory space. The APL is a cross-faculty hub, bringing together researchers from UCL departments of Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, with the Department of Chemical Engineering as the lead partner for this post. About the role


------------------


We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled individual to lead the operation of UCL East's Advanced Propulsion Lab (APL) battery manufacturing facilities, including the dry room and gloveboxes. The post holder will provide specialist support to the APL Manager, and will manage the day-to-day running of specialised equipment, supporting researchers and students, coordinating training, and ensuring all activities are carried out safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will lead on maintenance and operation of battery testing facilities, supporting install and commissioning of instruments, contribute to equipment procurement and maintenance, and work closely with academic and technical teams across UCL East and Bloomsbury.



This is an open-ended role, starting from 1st December 2025.



Salary is 43,981 - 52,586 per annum inclusive of London allowance.

About you


-------------


The successful candidate will have experience working in chemical engineering, chemistry, or related laboratory environments. The postholder will have previously worked in a research setting, providing technical expertise and support to active research projects. They should also possess hands-on experience in the design, operation, and use of electrochemical and materials laboratory equipment and instrumentation. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in operating, maintaining, and repairing laboratory equipment, with proven experience supporting research activities in a safe and efficient manner.
