Technoturn are subcontract manufacturers of high precision CNC machined components and assemblies for cutting edge industries including Aerospace, Defence, and Scientific research.

Joining Technoturn as an apprentice you will be supported by a team of highly skilled and experienced engineers in your journey to becoming a fully skilled CNC Machining Technician. Tasks & Training Details



In this wide-ranging apprenticeship you will learn:

To read and interpret engineering drawings. To operate manual lathes and hand tools to produce work holding devices for production. To operate, set and programme a series of multi-axis CNC machine tools producing complex turned and milled components. About the properties of various material grades and how they affect the manufacturing process. Preventative machine maintenance to ensure optimum production efficiency. How to conduct first-off, in-process and final inspection process using advanced measurement equipment. How to stay safe in the workplace by complying with Health and Safety procedures.
Apprenticeship duration 45 months

Weekly working hours - Monday to Thursday 08:00-17:00, Friday 08:00-13:00

Total working hours - 39

Desired skill or personal quality



Good hand skills - practical skills, ability to understand and communicate technical information and work in a team. Though engineering is often viewed in purely technical terms, you must also have strong communication and teamwork skills.

Mechanical engineers are, above all else, problem solvers. They use maths and analytical abilities to spot problems and resolve them. This is important in the development process so you can ensure that the devices you create do what clients need them to do.

Qualifications: Essential

5 x GCSE at Grade 4/5 (C) and above including English and maths.

Qualifications: Desirable

Science and ICT an advantage.

Training to be provided:



On completion of the apprenticeship, you will have achieved the following qualification;

Machining Technician Level 3 (ST1305) Apprenticeship Standard

EAL L3 Extended diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge) Level: 3

Workplace qualification:



Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering NVQ (Level 3 Diploma)

The final apprenticeship completion certificate will be issued on achievement of the above qualification and successful completion of end point assessment.

Future Prospects:



To become a fully trained and qualified Machining Technician with Technoturn.

As with all apprenticeships, this requires a long-term commitment - there will be assignments and logbook entries to complete. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a top company, whilst you work towards nationally recognised qualifications.
