Connect to your industry

In Deloitte's Commerce practice, we empower the world's biggest brands to design, build, and seamlessly run next-generation technology platforms. Our expertise spans the entire commerce lifecycle, from strategic advisory and innovative design through to robust implementation and ongoing operational support. We are adept at translating complex human needs into intuitive, seamless digital experiences, fundamentally transforming our clients' go-to-market operations and significantly driving growth across their organisations.
Essentially, we forge powerful partnerships with leading global enterprises, co-creating exceptional commerce experiences that resonate with customers. Our growth culture champions continuous and unwavering customer centricity, ensuring we balance rapid speed to market with uncompromising technical excellence. Joining our team means contributing to impactful transformations at the forefront of digital commerce.

Connect to your opportunity

As an Architect in Deloitte Digital's Commerce offering, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing cutting-edge digital commerce solutions for our global clients. You will translate complex business requirements into robust, scalable, and innovative technical architectures, driving the successful delivery of transformative platforms.

We're looking for people who are leaders - natural initiative-takers who bring out the best in others, are brilliant listeners and grow our business without compromising standards, integrity, or culture.

About the role:

You will design, document, and evolve technical architectures for digital front-office and commerce solutions, translating strategic visions into detailed technical blueprints and ensuring alignment with client objectives and industry best practices. You will be a hands-on Solution Architect, with a passion for modern digital customer architectures, responsible for the end-to-end technical design of these platforms, ensuring architectural integrity, performance, and scalability. You will guide the technical implementation of solutions, collaborating closely with development teams, ensuring adherence to architectural standards, and providing expert technical problem-solving throughout the project lifecycle. You will collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams - including product managers, developers, BAs and delivery leads - to ensure technical solutions meet business requirements and are delivered efficiently, fostering an inclusive team culture. You will articulate complex technical solutions in a business-friendly way to senior client stakeholders, explaining architectural decisions, trade-offs, and their impact on project outcomes, including commercial implications. You will guide clients through complex digital transformations, helping them modernise their architectures whilst incrementally delivering value, providing architectural advice and direction to project teams (including leading vendor selection processes). You will ensure solutions adhere to architectural governance, security principles, and technical standards, contributing to the overall quality and resilience of the platforms you design and build. You will identify and mitigate technical risks, proactively addressing potential challenges in design and implementation to ensure smooth project delivery.
You will leverage artificial intelligence in architectural design where appropriate, exploring how AI can enhance digital customer platform capabilities and improve system efficiency, whilst actively seeking to use AI to improve your own architectural processes and ways of working.

Connect to your skills and professional experience

To thrive as an Architect in our Commerce foundry, you will possess a strong blend of technical expertise, architectural design capabilities, and effective communication skills. We are looking for practitioners who can translate vision into tangible technical solutions, guide development teams, and ensure the successful implementation of complex digital commerce platforms.

Your experience should include:

Experience:

Significant experience working on agile software development projects, working as an Architect or adjacent role (e.g. Senior Developer, Technical Lead)

Solution Architecture & Design:

Proven ability to design and document robust, scalable, and complex distributed application architectures for B2C and/or B2B front-office and commerce solutions. Experience with cloud-native architectures is a must.

Commerce Platform Expertise:

Demonstrable experience as a Solutions Architect with leading front-office/commerce platforms aligned with composable principles (e.g., Salesforce Commerce Cloud, commercetools, SAP Commerce Cloud, Adobe Commerce, Shopify Plus, etc). A clear understanding of the role these technologies play in the broader digital customer landscape is essential.

Technical Leadership & Guidance:

Ability to provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams, ensuring adherence to architectural standards, best practices, and effective problem-solving. Experience coaching and supporting multi-location development teams.

Architectural Principles & Methodologies:

Strong understanding of architectural patterns, software development lifecycle (SDLC), and agile development methodologies from an architectural perspective. Ability to bridge the gap between old and new world technology landscapes and chart a path from one to the other, with demonstrable experience of helping clients to modernise complex legacy estates and guiding them on legacy monolith decommissioning.

System Integration & Data Architecture:

Experience in designing complex system integrations and defining data models for broader front-office and commerce ecosystems (e.g., PIM, OMS, CDP, CRM, Marketing Automation).

Performance, Scalability & Security:

Expertise in designing solutions that meet high standards for performance, scalability, and security, including knowledge of security principles and standards.

AI in Architecture:

A practical understanding of how Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI can be integrated into front-office and/or commerce architectures to enhance functionality, improve customer experience, and optimise operations. Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools and techniques to improve architectural design processes and personal productivity.

Technical Communication & Senior Stakeholder Engagement:

Excellent ability to concisely articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, present architectural designs, and collaborate effectively with client technical teams and project stakeholders. Good knowledge of the digital vendor landscape, including experience engaging with vendor selection processes for digital customer solutions, articulating the technical and commercial rationale for choices.

Problem-Solving & Innovation:

A proactive and analytical approach to solving complex technical challenges, with a focus on designing innovative and practical solutions. A clear view on innovation within our sector and its relevance to our clients.

Continuous Learning & Self-Motivation:

A commitment to staying abreast of emerging technologies, architectural trends, and industry best practices in digital commerce. Self-motivated and driven, constantly seeking to deliver excellent client outcomes.
