to take on a dedicated
PAS 2035 Retrofit Designer

Building Energy Experts would be looking for a CIAT-qualified Architectural Technologist with experience in practice
, as this enables you to take on the Retrofit Designer role under PAS 2035.
We are a small but growing, award-winning sustainability consultancy with big ambitions. Based on Gloucester Road in Bristol, we work nationally to deliver retrofit, testing, and consultancy services that help improve building performance and cut carbon across the UK's housing stock.
As a core member of our retrofit design team, you'll take ownership of technical detailing and drawing packages for whole-house retrofit projects across a range of property types, including older and hard-to-treat homes. You'll work closely with Coordinators, Assessors, and delivery teams to ensure robust, buildable designs that balance performance, cost, and practicality.
We are looking for someone who can immediately contribute to live PAS 2035 projects, take responsibility for their own work, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Key Duties
Acting as a PAS 2035 Retrofit Designer on whole-house retrofit projects
Producing detailed technical drawings and specifications for planning, tender, and construction
Developing and coordinating retrofit construction details - especially insulation, airtightness, ventilation, and moisture control
Working closely with Retrofit Coordinators, Assessors, and contractors to ensure practical, high-performing solutions
Reviewing and incorporating site findings, buildability constraints, and installer feedback
Ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and PAS 2035 requirements
Contributing to internal templates, design guidance, and QA processes
Supporting the wider team and business operations where needed
Key Skills
Degree or equivalent qualification in Architectural Technology or related field
Chartered or Associate Member of CIAT (or working towards full chartered status
Proven experience delivering
PAS 2035 Retrofit Design
work
Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, construction detailing, and sustainable design
Proficiency in
AutoCAD
(or similar); experience with
Revit
and
SketchUp
is a strong bonus
Familiarity with
SAP assessments
and their application in retrofit design
Confident in technical detailing for thermal performance, airtightness, moisture, and ventilation
Experience collaborating with contractors and clients to resolve site and technical issues
A collaborative and flexible mindset - you're ready to contribute wherever you're most needed
Familiarity with older and traditional buildings is desirable

You've already worked as a Retrofit Designer or delivered design work aligned with PAS 2035 is desirable
