Job summary
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs over 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.
This post is working for Headquarters Wattisham Flying Station (WFS), the Main Operating Base of the Army's Attack Helicopters (AH), near Ipswich. A large, airfield, site the Station is the "home" for elements of 1st Aviation Brigade Combat Team (1AVN BCT)(Attack), 7 Aviation Support Battalion REME (Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers), 3 & 4 Regiments AAC (Army Air Corps) and other lodger units.
Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to work on-site daily.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
The Station Lifeguard, is to provide essential Lifeguard cover for all pool based military and civilian training, including mandatory dingy drills for pilots.
Key responsibilities:
Poolside safety.
Hygiene of the changing rooms and poolside.
Equipment care and maintenance.
Lifeguard duties - You will occupy the highest percentage of daily rostered hours with pool cover as required by the pool timetable. The maximum poolside time will generally be 60 minutes with a breakaway from the poolside of 10 minutes. Then carry out other required pool tasks.
Customer care - At all times the care and comfort of pool users are a priority. On occasion this may be exceeded if staffing levels are insufficient (eg sickness, annual leave etc).
Cleaning duties - in association with general hands, lifeguards will ensure hygiene standards are kept to a high level, paying particular attention to poolside and changing areas.
Equipment Setups - Lifeguards will ensure that all necessary equipment is set up in good time for activities, and that equipment changeovers are carried out with the minimum of delay.
Accidents & Incidents - All accidents and incidents in or around the pool must be reported and logged in writing.
Personnel Administration - Personnel administration must be maintained in this post so that Lifeguards can deliver a safe and efficient service whilst carrying out their role. Monthly assessments of current NPLQ (Nation Pool Lifeguard Qualification) must be undertaken and recorded.
This post requires an individual to have high levels of personnel discipline administration. There is an essential requirement to maintain a high concentration level for extended periods of time whilst on the poolside and shift pattern also requires a level of discipline to maintain.
Once in post, you will be required to obtain Nation Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ). The NPLQ covers all elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguarding Theory, First Aid and CPR.
