About Shaftesbury Arts Centre
Shaftesbury Arts Centre is a long-established, community-run charity at the heart of Shaftesbury, Dorset. Founded in 1957, the Centre offers a diverse programme of theatre, film, music, dance, exhibitions, and workshops, as well as community and education projects.
Entirely volunteer-led, the Centre is dedicated to creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience and take part in the arts.

The Role
We are seeking
two new volunteer Trustees
to join our Board and help guide the future direction and sustainability of the organisation.
Trustees play a vital role in shaping the strategy, governance, and growth of the Arts Centre, ensuring that it continues to thrive as a hub for creativity and community involvement.
This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about the arts, community development, and volunteering.
Key Responsibilities
Attend and actively contribute to monthly Board meetings (usually held in the evening)
Ensure compliance with the Charity Commission and good governance practices
Help develop and monitor the Centre's strategic and business plans
Support the management and engagement of volunteers
Promote the values and work of the Arts Centre within the community
Contribute specific skills or professional expertise to help the organisation grow and adapt
Skills and Experience
We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds. Experience in any of the following areas would be particularly valuable:
Finance, accounting, or business planning
Marketing, communications, or social media
Fundraising and income generation
Facilities management, operations, or health and safety
Education, outreach, or community engagement
Performing or visual arts management
Previous trustee experience is helpful but not essential. Training and support will be provided.
Time Commitment
Approximately 3-4 hours per month, including one Board meeting (usually monthly) and occasional attendance at events or volunteer gatherings.
