About Us

Shaftesbury Arts Centre is a thriving community-run charity in the heart of Shaftesbury, Dorset. Founded in 1957, we host a packed year-round programme of theatre, film, music, dance, exhibitions, and workshops. Everything we do is made possible by our amazing volunteers -- from set builders and electricians to bar staff and front-of-house teams.

We're now looking for enthusiastic

volunteers

to join our team and help keep the Centre running smoothly, creatively, and safely.

Volunteer Roles Available

We have opportunities in many areas -- whether you enjoy meeting people, working behind the scenes, or getting creative:

Front of House

- welcoming audiences, checking tickets, helping visitors enjoy their experience.

Bar Volunteers

- serving drinks and snacks during events and intervals.

Projection & Technical Support

- helping with film screenings, lighting, and sound setups (training provided).

Set Building / Carpentry

- building and painting sets for theatre productions.

Electricians / Maintenance

- helping with electrical checks, lighting, and venue upkeep.

Social Media & Marketing

- promoting shows and events online and in the community.

Health & Safety Support

- assisting with risk assessments, event safety, and compliance.

General Helpers

- assisting wherever needed to support events, workshops, and community projects.

What We're Looking For

Friendly, reliable people who enjoy being part of a team Enthusiasm for the arts, theatre, or community projects Good communication and a positive attitude Willingness to learn (training and support provided) Availability to volunteer for events, evenings, or occasional weekends (flexible)
