Position Description:



The Surface Mount Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining automated SMT assembly equipment, ensuring accurate placement of surface mount components on PCBs. This role is critical to the efficiency, quality, and consistency of our production line.

Role and responsibilities



Set up and operate SMT pick-and-place machines (e.g., Yamaha, Juki, Fuji, etc.). Load reels, trays, and feeders with surface mount components. Program and adjust machine settings based on job specifications and board layouts. Perform changeovers and setups for different jobs according to production schedules. Monitor machine performance and production output for accuracy and consistency. Inspect boards for proper component placement, alignment, and solder paste application. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve basic equipment errors and feeder issues. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of SMT equipment and related machinery. Collaborate with quality control and engineering teams to ensure product compliance. Complete production documentation and log all machine activity as required. Follow ESD and safety protocols at all times Print solder paste onto PCBs either by hand or using stencil printer machines. Reflow PCBs using reflow ovens and follow proper thermal profiles. Operate X-ray inspection machine to verify solder joints and component integrity, particularly for BGAs and hidden joints. Ensure all assembly work complies with IPC-A-610 workmanship standards.

Requirements and skills:



Essential:



Previous experience operating SMT machines in a manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, BOMs, and work instructions. Familiarity with SMT solder paste printing, reflow ovens, and X-ray inspection equipment. Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity. Experience working with or understanding IPC-A-610 workmanship standards. Basic computer skills and familiarity with SMT machine interfaces. Understanding of ESD precautions and general electronics handling. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable:



IPC-A-610 certification. Experience in a high-mix, low-to-medium volume production environment. Knowledge of feeder calibration, stencil cleaning, and basic SMT troubleshooting. Prior work in ISO or quality-controlled manufacturing environments.
