As an Assembly Fitter, you will be a key contributor to the mechanical build and production of Ulster Shredders machinery at our Castledawson facility.
The role is fully factory-based and focuses on the accurate assembly, fitting, and preparation of industrial shredding equipment. You will work as part of a skilled engineering team to ensure that all machines are manufactured to precise specifications, delivered on schedule, and built in accordance with our high-quality and lean manufacturing standards.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical assembly and fitting of shredding machinery to engineering drawings and bills of materials
Installation of mechanical components including gearboxes, bearings, shafts, guards, and conveyors
Preparation of machines for internal testing and final inspection
Use of hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment safely and effectively
Assist with strip-down, refurbishment, and rebuild of used machinery
Support continuous improvement initiatives such as 5S, waste reduction, and quality control processes
Identify and report build issues, material shortages, or design improvements
Complete production check sheets and job documentation accurately
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
Work to company build schedules and meet SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) targets
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of
3 years' experience
in a similar mechanical assembly or fitting role
Strong understanding of mechanical systems and components
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical instructions
Experience in industrial equipment or heavy machinery assembly is highly desirable
Practical problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Mechanical engineering qualification, or time-served apprenticeship preferred
Forklift, overhead crane, or lifting/rigging experience would be advantageous

Flexibility:
Additional hours may be required from time to time to meet production demands. Any extra time worked will be compensated in line with contractual overtime or time-in-lieu arrangements.
