About the role
You will support a high priority project focused on system optimisation and implementation.
You will partner with our qualified System Accountant to conduct a full review of our existing system. Your responsibilities will include identifying areas for improvement, finding "quick wins" for immediate impact, and ensuring our current system is used effectively.
You will assist in the procurement and implementation of a new system designed to meet our business needs, including providing support during the onboarding process.
This project is one of the top four strategic initiatives within our current corporate plan, offering a fantastic opportunity to contribute to significant organisational change.
You will also:
Lead financial system users, fostering collaboration and issue resolution.
Develop team skills in system management and accounting.
Enhance systems awareness across finance.
Develop and maintain system access controls.
Support interim and year-end account preparation.
Lead on compliance and internal audits.
Provide technical training and develop documentation.
About the team
You'll be joining a close-knit, collaborative team instrumental in improving the Commission's financial processes and reporting. Reporting to the System Accountant, you will work alongside another Assistant Accountant who maintains the current system.
Who we're looking for
This role would suit a motivated self-starter who enjoys problem-solving and can explain Technical and financial matters in plain language.
You will bring:
An Accounting Qualification - part/newly qualified - ACCA or CIMA
Good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office products especially Excel
Experience of working in a support role in a busy finance department
Experience of accounting systems
Experience in working with internal and external auditors
Strong experience on 1st principles of accounting/Financial Reporting
Experience in central government accounts and use of the FreM would be desirable
