Assistant Event Manager

Job Description

The Assistant Event Manager supports the Event Manager in planning, coordinating, and delivering high-quality outside catering events. The role ensures that all aspects of event execution - from client liaison and staff coordination to logistics and compliance - are carried out smoothly, efficiently, and to the highest professional standard.

Key Duties and Responsibilities Event Coordination



Assist with the planning, organisation, and delivery of catering events, including weddings, corporate functions, and private parties. Support client communications before and during events to ensure expectations are understood and met. Prepare and maintain event documentation, schedules, and checklists. Coordinate logistics such as transport, equipment, and staff allocations.

On-Site Event Management



Act as deputy to the Event Manager during on-site delivery, overseeing event set-up, service, and breakdown. Supervise catering and service staff, ensuring professionalism, appearance, and adherence to service standards. Respond to client requests and resolve issues quickly and effectively during events. Monitor event timelines and liaise with kitchen and service teams to ensure smooth delivery.

Team Leadership



Brief, allocate, and support staff during events. Provide coaching and support to junior team members. Foster a positive, professional, and team-focused working environment.

Compliance and Standards



Ensure health & safety, fire safety, and food hygiene regulations are followed at all times. Oversee the safe use of catering equipment and vehicles at events. Assist with post-event debriefs and contribute to continuous improvement.

Administration and Reporting



Maintain accurate event records, staff schedules, and client notes. Contribute to event reviews and provide feedback on staff and supplier performance.

Required Skills and Experience



Previous experience in event management, hospitality, or catering. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with clients, staff, and suppliers. Ability to work under pressure and multitasking Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours based on event schedules.

Qualifications



Formal training in event management, hospitality, or business administration (desirable but not essential). Food Safety and Health & Safety certifications (training can be provided). Full driving licence
Job Types: Freelance, Zero hours contract

Pay: 16.81 per hour

Expected hours: 35 - 45 per week

Work Location: On the road
