Job summary



As the Assistant Head Coach of Active Gym, your primary responsibilities will be to support the leading our coaching team in the planning and delivery of our gymnastics programmes, ensuring a fun, safe, engaging and educational environment for all participants. You will continuously assist in evaluating our programmes and schedules to develop our club and enhance what we offer to our gymnasts. You will review and apply appropriate health and safety requirements where necessary and will ensure that the club operates inside British Gymnastics guidelines.

You will work closely with the coaching team and the Head Coach and will demonstrate yourself to be an enthusiastic and engaging leader with the ability to inspire others. You will consistently personally delivery sessions to gymnasts with a regular timetable of coaching.

Duties



1. Supervise the coaching of gymnastics and the duties of Gymnastics Coaches and Assistant Coaches. Ensure that Active Gym staff working under the Employee are following the policies and procedures of the Employer and are fulfilling their duties to the required standards. 2. Assist in leading the planning, development and implementation of gymnastics programmes to be delivered by the coaching team. Continuously evaluate and review the programme and session schedules and develop where necessary. 3. Confidently assist in leading a high-quality team of coaches and ensure excellence in the preparation and delivery of gymnastics programmes. 4. Work with the Head Coach and Director of Active Gym to create, carry out and achieve action plans and initiatives, in line with the Employer's goals for the progression of the club. 5. Take an active coaching role and personally deliver gymnastics sessions to the standard expected by a high performing Gymnastics Coach, including a regular timetable of coaching and providing cover for absent coaches when needed. 6. Take charge of gymnast squad development, including the planning, preparation and attendance of external competitions. 7. Support in the coordination and delivery of the club's gymnast award schemes. 8. Work with the coaching team and Head Coach to identify gymnasts as candidates to transition across programmes and groupings. 9. Ensure that safety is paramount in sessions by overseeing that the children's equipment, working area and skills are safe, as well as continuously safeguarding the gymnasts and coaches both inside and outside of session times. Check equipment is safe, stable and adequately matted before use. 10. When the Head Coach is not present, take charge of health and safety at the club and in the workplace and ensure that the Employer meets the health and safety standards required by the law and British Gymnastics guidelines. Act as first-aid lead. 11. Prepare for further development through CPD delivered by both the Employer and external providers and highlight other employees for potential CPD opportunities. 12. Administer employee training programmes designed by the Head Coach and Director (including observations/progress assessments) for different roles inside the Employee's team to improve the standard of service the Employer provides. 13. Support the induction, training and development of new coaches. 14. Uphold the standards of the club by being patient, respectful and approachable when interacting with customers, children and colleagues. 15. Manage concerns, queries or issues raised by gymnasts, coaches, parents/carers or visitors with assistance from the Employee's manager where required. 16. Provide a positive, enthusiastic and engaging role model across all areas of responsibility to inspire the coaching team. 17. Read and follow the policies and procedures of the Employer (sent to the Employee in welcome email) at all times. 18. Be flexible and perform other reasonable duties assigned to the Employee in line with the business needs. 19. Maintain the appropriate British Gymnastics membership for the role and ensure that it stays valid throughout employment. 20. Hold and maintain competence in an administrative capacity including using Microsoft products such as Excel, PowerPoint, To Do and Word and communicating via different media including in-person, video chat, telephone, email and text message. 21. Take an active approach in developing coaching knowledge by keeping up with current affairs related to gymnastics, coaching and child development and bring new ideas and coaching developments into the club. 22. Work effectively without supervision across all areas of responsibility. 23. In times where the Employee is the most senior staff member in attendance, take on the role of Lead Coach and complete the duties necessary to maintain business operations, including the duties of Head Coach where appropriate (sent to the Employee in welcome email). 24. Report to the Head Coach and Director. The reporting line may change from time to time with business needs.

Requirements



British Gymnastics General Gymnastics Level 2 Award or equivalent. Experience inspiring, motivating and managing a coaching team. Experience inspiring, motivating and managing different levels and ages of gymnasts from ages 1-13 and beginner to intermediate level. An enthusiastic and positive attitude. Strong communication skills with the ability to educate and motivate young athletes. A passion for gymnastics and/or working with children. Effective communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work outside of typical working hours, including evenings and weekends. Flexibility to cover additional sessions where required e.g. holiday camps. Enhanced DBS check and willingness to add to the online Update Service. Relevant safeguarding, child protection and first-aid qualifications or willingness to undertake qualifications.
