We are seeking a dedicated Herder to oversee and manage livestock within our agricultural operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of animal care, horticulture, and equipment maintenance. This role involves ensuring the health and safety of animals while maintaining the surrounding environment and infrastructure. The position offers an opportunity to work outdoors in a dynamic setting, contributing to sustainable farming practices.
Duties
Herd livestock to designated areas using appropriate handling techniques
Monitor animal health and behaviour, reporting any concerns promptly
Assist with feeding, watering, and general care of animals
Maintain and repair fencing, gates, and other infrastructure using hand tools and power tools
Conduct regular inspections of irrigation systems and ensure proper functioning
Perform routine equipment maintenance and minor repairs on farm machinery
Assist with horticultural tasks such as planting, pruning, and landscape upkeep
Utilise mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting equipment issues
Carry out heavy lifting tasks related to livestock management and farm maintenance
Keep detailed records of animal health, feeding schedules, and maintenance activities
Skills
Knowledge of irrigation systems and their maintenance
Mechanical aptitude with experience in equipment repair and basic troubleshooting
Proficiency with hand tools and power tools for repairs and maintenance tasks
Basic maths skills for measuring feed quantities, fencing lengths, or land area calculations
Experience in animal care, including handling livestock safely and humanely
Understanding of horticultural practices for farm landscape management
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently
Strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively
Good physical fitness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Attention to detail for monitoring animal health and maintaining equipment
