PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: 28,100 - 38,100 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Assistant Producer will work for BBC Audio. BBC Audio devises, develops and delivers original content for the BBC. BBC Audio, BBC Scotland and BBC Northern Ireland launched a partnership in 2024 which created a BBC Audio production hub spanning Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast. The unit creates content across a variety of genres but with a focus on arts and culture. BBC Audio has more than 400 staff producing over 90 hours of content every day for virtually of all the radio networks as well as BBC Sounds, and has bases across the UK. BBC Audio is one of Europe's largest production businesses specialising in audio.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
We are looking for an ambitious Assistant Producer to work across our books programmes in BBC Audio Scotland. The titles we currently deliver include Take Four Books and Book Club on Radio 4 as well as interviewing literary figures on our regular episodes of Front Row and Loose Ends.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • You'll be a keen reader of fiction and non-fiction titles and know what is delighting and inspiring readers in both genres.
  • You'll be knowledgeable about literary trends and new releases, your contacts book of publishers and agents is robust and well-thumbed.
  • Your research and production skills are well-honed and you're able to move between programmes and projects with ease and enthusiasm, working on high impact content which demands the highest possible production values.
  • Your attention to detail is excellent and you will bring planning and organising discipline to the role.
  • You'll have lots of great ideas for items, programmes and series and will work with your books colleagues and wider development team to take the very best ideas to commissioning.
  • The role is based in Glasgow and may report to both SCP's and Editors depending on the programme or project.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
  • You will have a demonstrable passion for fiction and non-fiction books
  • Knowledge of output across networks and platforms and appreciation of how our audiences consume content, particularly books
  • You will be organised, able to prioritise your workload, and work to deadlines
  • Have experience of thoroughly researching items -keeping with audience needs and expectations.
  • Technically proficient to the requirements of the role including good audio editing skills
