Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a fixed-term appointment for twelve months in the North East Cumbria Community Treatment Team (CTT). As an Assistant Psychologist you would be part of a team offering psychological interventions as part of the wider MDT. We are recruiting to posts across pathways, supporting psychological interventions to service users under our Community Mental Health Services. Successful applicants will receive regular supervision and support from Clinical Psychology, Psychological Therapists, other therapeutic modalities, multi-disciplinary staff, and peer workers.



As a team we offer a range of therapies as part of the MDT. We offer Community Mental Health treatments across North Cumbria to those presenting with significant mental health difficulties and offer an MDT approach to our interventions.



We have clinical pathways relating to Psychosis, complex emotional needs/ difficulties (including Personality Difficulties and Disorder) and other presentations (such as Bipolar, OCD, PTSD, Severe Depression and Anxieties). We work alongside a range of specialist, NHS and third sector services, such as for those presenting with a range of other difficulties.



We are looking for an individual with enthusiasm and an interest in working with people with a range of presenting difficulties and needs. The post holder will gain experience in a range of clinical and other areas.



We have links with the Newcastle and Lancaster DClinPsy courses, and as part of the Assistant Psychologist role you will be supported to further your development and career, including applications for Clinical Psychology training courses.



Some of the roles that would be included within this post includes:



Group work (evidence-based) 1:1 Psychological Interventions, including PSI (psycho-social interventions) and staying well plans Joint assessments of service users and/ or family members Neuropsychological assessments Observing/ shadowing/ supporting the work of accredited therapists, MHWPs, Trainees Supporting our data management, e.g. referrals for therapy and groups, waiting lists, engaging service users regarding their attendance at groups Supporting Psychological and MDT audits Observing/ shadowing/ supporting team formulations and formulation meetings Attending and supporting teaching and training relating to the evidence-based practice of the psychological therapists and MDT staff Working with and alongside a range of staff members including Clinical Psychologists, Psychological Therapists, Nurses, Social workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychiatrists, Support Workers, Peer Supporters.

This post covers North East Cumbria (Carlisle and Eden Valley) and the post holder will need to travel across the locality, with the option to be based in Carlisle. The selection process involves formal interview and you will require Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced clearance before commencement of duties.



The successful candidate will provide standardised assessments, psychosocial interventions (CBT-informed), supporting the MDT, regular audit and service evaluation. This is a varied role, you will receive a range of support and supervision, and weekly supervision from a Senior Psychological Therapist.



You will deliver interventions to support people to work towards their goals, using principles such as behavioural activation and graded exposure, psychoeducation, staying well planning, and potentially much more. You will be responsible for supporting the therapists and the wider team to monitor targets, as well as supporting the service to evaluate what it is offering in terms of psychological interventions.



We are looking for an Assistant Psychologist to work as part of the psychological interventions staffing and the wider MDT in North East Cumbria CTT. The focus of this post will be supporting the qualified Psychological Therapists to provide assessment, formulation and interventions for a range of mental health difficulties. In addition to direct contact with service users in person, remotely or on the telephone, there would be a range of indirect experience in MDT working via pathway and complex case meetings. You would also be required to carry out various other clinical aspects of the role, and complete documentation on Rio. It is also expected that the post holder will contribute to service development projects and audit within the team, as required. The duties and role may change and evolve due to ongoing service demands but there will be clear tasks/objectives/projects and ongoing supervision from qualified psychology staffing to support the role.



It is essential that you hold an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology (or equivalent as recognised by the BPS).



Service specific training - Staff will attend a range of statutory and mandatory training applicable to all staff in the Trust. In addition, we are supportive of ongoing CPD/ training needs specific to the role and area.



Additional skills and competencies and duties required to fulfil the role - You may also be expected to undertake training and implementation of audit and service evaluation and other related health activity.
