Assistant Quantity Surveyor



Aptus Utilities are seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team at our Head Office in Bolton. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop their career within a fast-growing, multi-utility infrastructure provider.

In this role, you will support senior surveyors with cost estimation, contract administration, financial reporting, and supplier engagement, while gaining valuable exposure to both office and site-based activities. You will play an active part in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and compliance.

We are looking for candidates who are motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to progress within the commercial field. A background in construction, utilities, or related studies is desirable, alongside strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills.

Overall Purpose of the Role:



As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team in managing the financial and contractual aspects of multi-utility projects. Working under the guidance of senior colleagues, you will assist with cost estimation, contract administration, budget monitoring, and reporting, while developing your professional skills and knowledge. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career to gain practical experience and progress towards becoming a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor.

What you will be doing:



Assist with the preparation of

cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports

for multi-utility projects. Support the monitoring of project costs, identifying variations and reporting to senior surveyors. Help with contract administration, including drafting variations and liaising with clients and contractors under supervision. Work with project teams and engineers to ensure project requirements and standards are met. Provide support in obtaining supplier/subcontractor quotations and analysing costs. Attend site visits with senior staff to assess progress and support in resolving commercial/contractual matters. Assist in preparing and maintaining

weekly and monthly project financial records

. Contribute to building strong client and contractor relationships. Take part in ongoing professional development and training

What we ask from you:



Some experience in Quantity Surveying, Construction, or related commercial roles (preferred, not essential). Understanding of UK construction and utility industry practices (desirable). Good numeracy and analytical skills. Competent in

MS Office (Excel as a minimum)

. Strong communication and organisational skills. Willingness to learn, take direction, and work as part of a team. Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail Valid driver's licence is essential

Preferred Attributes:



Working towards a relevant degree or qualification in

Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field

. Interest in professional membership (e.g., RICS, CIOB).

This role is based at Bolton, Full Time & Permanent-

Primarily office-based, with occasional travel to sites or other offices.
