We are now seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team. This role will support the effective financial and contractual management of projects from inception through to completion, offering exposure to all aspects of commercial delivery within a highly specialised sector.
Responsibilities
Core Commercial Duties
Assist in the preparation of cost plans, budgets, bills of quantities, and tender documentation to support accurate project pricing and cost control
Support procurement processes by preparing and issuing enquiries, analysing subcontractor quotations, producing tender comparisons, and assisting in subcontract awards
Contribute to the administration of subcontracts under NEC contracts, including managing early warnings, recording compensation events, and ensuring contractual compliance
Undertake site measurement and verification of works, preparing valuations for interim applications, variations, and change control
Assist with interim valuations, applications for payment, monthly CVRs, cash flow forecasts, and final account preparation
Review and validate subcontractor applications, invoices, compensation events, and claims to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely payment
Monitor project costs, risks, and opportunities, reporting variances against budgets and programmes to senior surveyors
Maintain accurate commercial records and cost data to support reporting, audit, and future benchmarking
Supporting Responsibilities
Contribute to value engineering and cost analysis, assisting in the identification of opportunities to optimise value while maintaining quality and compliance
Assist in the preparation of CVR data entry and cash flow forecasts to support accurate financial reporting
Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and supply chain partners to support clear commercial communication and issue resolution
Assist in the collation and analysis of evidence to support the submission, assessment, and negotiation of compensation events, early warnings, RFIs, and contractual claims
Provide commercial support in dispute avoidance and resolution by maintaining accurate records and preparing documentation for adjudications or negotiations
Attend site inspections, progress meetings, and commercial reviews to ensure alignment between operational delivery and commercial reporting
Ensure compliance with NEC contract obligations, statutory requirements, company procedures, and health and safety standards
Requirements
Degree in Quantity Surveying or related field (or working towards it)
3 years of experience in a QS or construction-related role (placements/internships accepted)
Strong numerical and analytical skills
Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment
Full UK driving licence (preferred but not essential)
