About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Assistant Secretary in the Member relations team of BMA Cymru/Wales.
The role is based in the Cardiff office and it is a requirement for the successful applicant to live within the region or within a commutable distance.
You will provide individual case representation on complex issues to ensure that members receive the best possible individual advice/representation. You will be responsible for several Health Boards across the area, facilitating the local negotiating committees ensuring terms and conditions are protected and enhanced. You will also provide advice and support to Welsh national branch of practice (BoP) committee Chairs on contractual and collective negotiations. You will line manage other members of the member relations team, leading in their coaching and development.
To be successful as an Assistant Secretary you'll ideally have:
Extensive working experience of complex casework, advising/representing employees and /or employers (may hold legal or CIPD qualification)
Up to date and in-depth expert knowledge of employment law, employee relations, human resource policies, procedures and good practice, and terms and conditions under which NHS doctors work
Knowledge of NHS structures in Wales and an understanding of the key issues facing the medical profession in Wales is also desirable
Effective presentation skills with strong interpersonal, networking and stakeholder management skills
Excellent negotiation, influencing and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to be flexible and adaptable in dealing with varying situations.
You will need to be able to manage a demanding workload and work independently managing your own work diary whilst providing line management support. Experience of line management is therefore desirable.
We anticipate that interviews will take place early December in person at our Cardiff office.
