Assistant Surveyor -

The main tasks of the job of the Assistant Surveyor will be to support the RICS Accredited Surveyors in their fee-earning work, until such time as they achieve their RICS Accreditation themselves.

The qualified surveyors at SW17 Surveyors Ltd undertake property valuations and pre-purchase surveys on residential homes, using standard RICS survey report forms. For these duties, our surveyors must AssocRICS, Member or Fellow designation with the RICS. They must also be RICS Registered Valuers.

The surveyors also undertake Party Wall Awards. For these duties, our surveyors are members of organisations such as The Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors or similar Party Wall professional organisations.

By supporting the qualified surveyors, the Assistant Surveyor will become familiar and competent in undertaking the surveying duties of the firm. In addition, this job will provide a pathway for the Assistant Surveyor to become an RICS accredited surveyor, by the AssocRICS or the MRICS routes.

1. Accompany Chartered Surveyors to site related to pre-purchase surveys or party wall awards, take notes and photographs as directed, write up reports on using appropriate reporting templates, as directed, ready for sign off by Chartered Surveyor.

2. Collect and return keys to estate agents as directed.

3. Input Residential valuation Comparables to comparables databases, as directed.

4. Email - Use the shared SW17 Surveyors email address and any other company email as required for communicating with our clients and service providers.

5. Website - become familiar with the Company website, in order to refer clients to the services that we offer.

6. Filing - Storing survey records in our digital filing systems e.g. DropBox, WeTransfer, iCloud or OneDrive.

7. Carry out pre-survey checks and prepare site notes for use during surveys.

8. Assist Director by answering office telephone and passing on messages to other members of the team as directed, either by paper, email or by telephone communication.

9. Assist Director with the preparation of Invoices and issuing them to clients.

10. Any other duties required for the role as determined by the Director.

1. An RICS accredited first degree for for Residential Survey and Valuation Pathway - Certificates.

2. A non-surveying degree will be considered but applicants must have a RICS-accredited Master degree for Residential Survey and Valuation Pathway - Certificates.

13. Physically fit in order to be able to climb into loft spaces and inspect spaces under houses such as basements/ cellars - Previous experience.

The Assistant Surveyor applicant must be the holder of an RICS-accredited first degree, such as a BSc in Building Surveying to enable them to apply for the AssocRICS accreditation.

These qualifications will enable the Assistant Surveyor to commence the work experience requirement, to apply for the AssocRICS Accreditation for the RSV pathway as soon as they start at the firm.

The Assistant Surveyor applicant will need to show the aptitude, ability and willingness to support the fee-earning work of the company, which should improve the amount of workflow in the company.

This increased workflow will allow the company to assess the Assistant Surveyor's contribution to the company's profitability. This will reflect any wage increase that can be negotiated for the surveyor, once the surveyor becomes qualified to work as a fee earner for the company.

The Assistant Surveyor will be expected to work/ study towards achieving the AssocRICS in the shortest possible time. It is expected that the right candidate will achieve AssocRICS in 12 months from commencing the programme. SW17 Surveyors will provide the environment and the support to achieve this qualification. Once the AssocRICS is achieved, the Assistant surveyor will be expected to undertake fee-earning work independently.

The Assistant Surveyor will earn initially 30,000 per year. This will rise to 35,000 on completion of the AssocRICS. Once the surveyor is able to work independently and undertake fee-earning work, wages will be commensurate with earnings. Beyond that, salaries will depend on the profitability of the practice.
