: Town Hall, St Nicholas Street, Scarborough YO11 2HG. Office-based public-facing position supporting councillors, residents and visitors. Occasional flexibility may be considered, but regular home working is not part of this post.
Scarborough Town Council is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Assistant Clerk to join our small, dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of a newly established Council, formed in April 2025. Working alongside the Town Clerk and Councillors, you will play a vital role in supporting the development of good governance, community engagement, and civic life as the Council grows and defines its strategic objectives. If you are new to this work, full training will be given.
The Role
You will assist the Town Clerk in delivering the Council's day-to-day business, supporting Committees, and implementing Council decisions. The role includes responsibility for two of the Council's four committees, preparing agendas, recording minutes, and progressing actions. You will also contribute to policy development, communication and community initiatives, and support projects that enhance Scarborough's civic and community presence. The position includes opportunities for professional development, including working towards the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA).
We're looking for someone who is:
Organised, reliable, and confident in managing workloads and deadlines
A clear communicator, comfortable engaging with Councillors, partners, and the public
IT-literate and proficient in Microsoft Office, and social media
Enthusiastic about community involvement and civic life
Flexible attending evening meetings, when required
Experience in local government or the voluntary/community sector is an advantage, but full training will be provided
