You will assess insurance submissions, price cases, process endorsements, renewals, and policy amendments within your authority. Acting as a key contact for brokers, clients, and internal teams, you'll help maintain smooth and efficient underwriting operations. Additionally, you'll mentor junior colleagues and contribute to continuous improvements in our underwriting processes.
Key Responsibilities
Assessing insurance submissions, gathering necessary information to determine risk exposure.
The consideration and pricing of cases based on subjective analysis of underwriting data and characteristics.
Processing endorsements, renewals, and policy amendments within the scope of authority.
Acting as an underwriting referral point, and coach, for less experienced colleagues.
Collaborating with brokers to ensure smooth policy issuance and communication.
Maintaining accurate records and underwriting documentation.
Supporting development underwriters with complex cases and special risk assessments.
Promoting the MDU's brand, values and reputation in its markets, with members, brokers and partners by having a visible and credible market presence
Actively expanding personal technical and niche knowledge both informally (networking internally and externally) and formally (In-house training, CII, CPD)
Representing the organisation by regular attendance at external seminars/conferences/networking opportunities.
Contributing to process improvements and efficiency enhancements within the underwriting team.
Technical Competencies
Understands key underwriting principles and risk assessment techniques.
Knows the key information required to underwrite a risk and why it is necessary.
Can explain underwriting and rating factors for different risk types.
Can assess standard policy terms and determine when special terms apply.
Understands the implications of premium changes for risks.
Understands how policy terms affect coverage and (within authority) set conditions, and endorsements to affect coverage.
Familiar with underwriting authority levels and referral processes.
Qualifications & Experience
Educated to A level standard (or equivalent.) Degree education preferred.
Professional qualification in insurance (or working towards ACII) is advantageous.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in underwriting support or insurance operations.
Experience working with brokers and external partners.
