Amphista Therapeutics is a fast-growing Cambridge-based biotech and the leading European Targeted Protein Degradation (TPD) company. The Associate Director Biology will be responsible for managing a team of scientists to contribute to the successful delivery of multiple Amphista discovery projects. The successful candidate will be experienced in the area of oncology and will take advantage of the unique benefits of Amphista technology to develop novel medicines to addressing targets or pharmacology not achievable with conventional small molecules or standard TPD approaches.

The ideal candidate will be goal oriented, a creative problem solver, clear thinking with excellent communication skills and an ability to engage their own team and the broader R&D team around them.

In their role, they will also attend and represent Amphista at scientific and industry-led meetings.

Leadership and Management

  • Lead scientists to achieve project goals, with a focus on quality and deep mechanistic understanding, within the agreed timelines.
  • Ensure team pays attention to scientific detail, understands project rationale, executes at pace, performs data analysis and interpretation,
and is able to communicate the results and their significance to the broader team.
  • Ability to work across functions to optimise processes and activities.
  • Responsible for leading, motivating and developing staff. Undertake regular reviews, provide advice, support and training & development
for direct reports.
  • Clear and regular communication to team and leadership of project progress and organizational priorities.
  • Maintain awareness of the internal & external developments in the Oncology field and apply these to Amphista projects.
Operational and Technical
  • Work with project management and R&D leadership team to ensure therapeutic programs are progressed and delivered to plan.
  • Responsible for monitoring, measuring and reporting on scientific issues, opportunities and developmental plans and achievements
within agreed formats & timescales.
  • Create and present plans and results in a range of verbal and written channels to Amphista R&D leadership and programme teams,
including preparing and writing-up protocols, methods and reports as required.
  • Responsible as an R&D leader for ensuring all activities, records and data are clearly recorded, kept up to date and in compliance with
regulatory and H&S requirements.
  • Identification and management of appropriate CRO\xe2\x80\x99s who can drive biological understanding of Amphista technology and mechanisms.
  • Critically analyse project data and contribute ideas that will drive projects forward whilst maintaining an awareness of current
developments in the literature to support projects.
  • Presenting and communicating plans and results internally and, when needed, externally.
  • Degree or PhD in Biology, Pharmacy, or related pharmaceutical science.
  • Deep mechanistic understanding and awareness of emerging opportunities in therapies for Oncology.
  • Industry experience in developing small molecule therapeutics in Oncology (biotech or pharmaceutical company)
  • Track record of advancing and leading projects from concept through drug discovery milestones, ideally in fast-paced environment.
  • Experience leading and managing Research Biologists, ensuring rigorous data analysis and developing the careers of team members.
  • Experience working across disciplines and an ability to effectively work outside own line/area of expertise.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
