UCL's Higher Education Development & Support Institute (HEDS) has been recently formed to bring together teaching, assessment and employability in order to support student futures - a key aim of our Strategic Plan 2022-2027. HEDS brings together UCL Arena, which focusses on pedagogical support for faculties and professional development for staff, and UCL's Careers Service, which is dedicated to supporting all UCL students, Early Career Researchers and recent Graduates to find the right path to ensure success in their future career.

This is a great chance to play an important part in the development of a department that's seen as fundamental to our Strategic Plan and the future of the University as a whole.



As one of seven Associate Directors in HEDS, in this job you'll be a member of the HEDS Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic leadership and operational management of HEDS as well as more specifically for UCL's Careers Service. You'll also be responsible for careers education within four of UCL's eleven faculties - Faculty of Laws; Faculty of Arts &Humanities; Faculty of Social & Historical Sciences and UCL Institute of Education. The latter 3 faculties all have additional programmes based at our new UCL East Campus, as part of the School of Creative and Cultural Industries.



You will lead and manage the relevant careers professionals manage the strategic relationship with academic staff and other senior stakeholders within the relevant faculties.



Also, as one of four Careers Associate Directors, you'll support the Director of HEDS in strategic leadership of the Institute as well as supporting operational enhancement of activities, ensuring alignment of all aspects to the core institutional mission and strategic aims. This will include providing leadership for HEDS-wide and institution-wide, careers-related projects.

About you

Things you'll need in order to do this job include:


A University degree or equivalent level qualification Experience within Higher Education Careers and/or a relevant employability-related setting, with exposure to a wide range of stakeholders Experience in supporting strategic organisational change and development Experience of direct line management of teams.

The following qualifications and experience, although not essential would be highly advantageous:


Fellowship of AdvanceHE and/or experience of employability teaching and learning in higher education Qualification in leadership and management Relevant professional qualification in careers and employability
