About the Role:




The Associate Lecturer is a career development role which allows aspiring academics who are post-PhD, or close to PhD completion, the opportunity to gain experience in teaching and learning activities, to develop their research and/or academic leadership and management skills and gain a teaching qualification.


The objective of the role is to provide an early career opportunity for those who have potential in the field of management (mainly quantitative subject areas). The role is available only to those who have a PhD or will be close to completing one before the role's start date of 1st September 2025. This role will run for 2 years only. During this time, post holders would undergo training and development in the role. The fixed term nature of the role also allows others an opportunity to participate in the development opportunity.


With appropriate mentoring from the Department, the post holder will help improve our students' educational experience whilst gaining excellent teaching experience. Teaching and student contact time will be allocated in accordance with departmental needs.


Specifically, Associate Lecturers are expected to contribute to the design, delivery and management of our SOAS educational portfolio aligned to a specific subject discipline. This includes our undergraduate, postgraduate and CPD provision - online and on-campus. Additionally, the Associate Lecturer will contribute to the administrative and teaching duties in the context of the [Enter programme or module title, if applicable] and other related education programmes - this includes student academic and pastoral support/mentoring. There may be a requirement to engage in fieldtrips and other experiential learning activities when required.


The Associate Lecturer will also contribute to the scholarship and intellectual life of the Department and SOAS by conducting teaching and research and/or pedagogy development.

The main fields of research in the School of Finance and Management include Finance, Financial Inclusion and Growth; Corporate Finance; Comparative Corporate Governance; International Business and Marketing; Business and Management in China, Japan and the Middle East; Environmental Economics and Management; Sustainable Finance; Regulatory Policies; Public Financial Management. Attached to the School of Finance and Management are the Centre for Global Finance and the Centre for Trust Research.


The School of Finance and Management offers high quality research (MPhil/PhD), postgraduate, undergraduate and specialist training programmes on Accounting and Finance; Management; International Business; International Marketing; Finance; Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Strategy; and Public Policy and Management. Attached to the School of Finance and Management is the Centre for Financial and Management Studies (CeFiMS), which provides Distance Learning MSc programmes in the fields of Finance, Banking, Finance and Financial Law, International Business, Public Policy and Management, and Public Financial Management.
