About us
------------
UCL Medical School (UCLMS) is dedicated to excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate education, with a strong reputation for innovative teaching and curriculum development informed by cutting-edge research.
We are currently undertaking a comprehensive review of our curriculum to reflect the evolving landscape of the NHS and medical education, enhance the use of information technology in learning, and better integrate the GMC Medical Licensing Assessment following a recent external assessment review.
As part of this exciting initiative, we are looking to recruit an Associate Lecturer (Teaching) to contribute to the review of the current curriculum and help shape the strategy for implementing a revised curriculum from 2026 onwards. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in a forward-thinking, collaborative, and dynamic academic environment.
About the role
------------------
As an Associate Lecturer (Teaching), you will play a key role in redeveloping the MBBS curriculum, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, academic colleagues, and key stakeholders. You will help shape the future of medical education by reviewing evidence, analysing curriculum content, aligning teaching with assessments, and supporting the introduction of innovative teaching methods. The role also offers opportunities for professional development through teaching, e-learning, research, and assessment activities across all years of the MBBS course. Beyond the curriculum, you will contribute to the wider academic life of the department, including research, public engagement, outreach, and postgraduate teaching, while maintaining your own ongoing professional development and training. This is an exciting opportunity to have a tangible impact on undergraduate medical education in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
Appointment details:
The appointment is available immediately and will continue until 5 October 2026, or until the substantive post holder returns, whichever comes first.
Due to the requirements of this role, we are unable to offer working hours below 0.6 FTE.
The post is graded on GRADE 7 or CL7. Salary for Grade 7 ranges from 43,981 to 52,586 including London allowance. Salary for CL7 ranges from 45,943 to 57,397.
Applicants who work medically at a SAS grade under a separate contract with an NHS Trust or public health body will be placed on UCL's clinical pay scales as per the CL7 grade. They will be expected to join their clinical and this teaching roles under a single contract, as per the Follett Principles.
You will be placed on CL7 if jointly combined with a medical role or G7 if standalone teaching position.
About you
-------------
You are a medically qualified professional with full GMC registration and experience in undergraduate teaching and assessment. You have a strong understanding of curriculum design and pedagogy, and are committed to delivering high-quality teaching in both clinical and non-clinical settings.
You work effectively both independently and collaboratively, with excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills. You are confident using digital tools to support learning and are committed to continuous professional development, interprofessional working, and upholding equal opportunities. Experience in a medical school, postgraduate education qualifications, or involvement in medical education research would be an advantage.
