A specialist school in Blackburn is seeking a dedicated Autism Teaching Assistant to join their nurturing team in a long-term role. You'll be supporting pupils across the school day in both structured and flexible settings, helping them feel safe, understood and ready to engage in learning. For the right person, this role could lead to a permanent position.
What You'll Be Doing
As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in the everyday experience of pupils with autism by:
Providing 1:1 and small group support throughout the day
Helping children communicate their needs, manage transitions and feel secure
Supporting emotional regulation through sensory breaks, calm spaces and structured routines
Using visual timetables, communication tools and consistent strategies to promote independence
Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and therapists to deliver tailored support aligned with each pupil's EHCP
Being a calm, empathetic presence who offers encouragement and structure

Who We're Looking For
This role is ideal for someone who brings warmth, patience and a genuine belief in the potential of every child. You might be:
An experienced Teaching Assistant
A health, care or support worker looking to transition into education
A social work or psychology graduate with a passion for SEND
Someone with personal or voluntary experience supporting individuals with autism
You'll need:
A relevant qualification in Teaching Assistance, Health and Social Care, Social Work or a related field
Experience working with children or adults with autism or additional needs
A calm, empathetic approach and strong communication skills
The ability to follow structured strategies while adapting to individual needs

If you take a temporary role with Sense?Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
