A warm and inclusive Carlisle school is seeking a committed Autism Teaching Assistant to join their team in a long-term role. This is a meaningful opportunity to support pupils with autism on both a 1:1 and small group basis -- helping them navigate challenges, build confidence, and achieve their potential in a setting that truly values each individual. The Role
As an Autism Teaching Assistant, your day will be varied and purposeful. You'll:
Support children with autism in structured classroom lessons and more flexible, personalised activities
Use visual aids, clear routines and consistent strategies to support understanding and promote independence
Help pupils manage transitions, regulate their emotions and develop social confidence
Encourage communication through trusted tools and techniques
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and therapists to deliver EHCP outcomes and support progress
Be a calm, reliable presence who brings empathy, patience and encouragement each day
Your role will be key in helping pupils feel safe, supported and seen -- making a lasting difference one small step at a time.
Who We're Looking For
This role would suit someone with a passion for inclusive education and a calm, resilient approach. We welcome applications from those with:
A relevant qualification in Teaching Assistance, Health and Social Care, Social Work or a similar area
Experience supporting children or adults with autism or additional needs
Strong communication skills and confidence working within a multi-disciplinary team
An understanding of emotional regulation strategies and the needs of neurodivergent pupils
A creative, pupil-centred approach to learning and care

This Carlisle-based school has a clear focus on nurturing relationships, celebrating progress, and meeting individual needs. Staff work closely together to create meaningful learning experiences, using therapeutic approaches and small group teaching to help every pupil thrive.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 8.30?am to 3.30?pm, term-time only

If you take a temporary role with Sense?Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
