Are you ready to take on a newly created role where your expertise in automation will directly impact production efficiency, compliance, and innovation? As an Automation Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of maintaining and evolving site automation technologies--from production equipment to building systems. You'll collaborate with global teams, lead impactful projects, and ensure compliance with key industry standards like SAPO, HSE OG86, and IEC 61508/61511.
This is a fully-site based role in Pirbright on a 3-year Fixed Term Contract.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Drive Innovation: Support small capital and expense projects that grow site automation sustainably, aligned with global standards
Own the Systems: Maintain and troubleshoot building automation systems, ensuring lifecycle management and compliance with BIAH SOPs
Collaborate Globally: Work with the global automation team to implement solutions and provide strategic data to guide investment decisions
Lead Projects: Act as the automation lead on projects and improvement initiatives
Protect Production: Minimize production loss by supporting day-to-day automation needs, implementing CAPAs, and maintaining critical documentation like network drawings and asset registers
Explore & Educate: Research new technologies, master them, and train others post-implementation
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Education & Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Control Systems + 2 years of professional experience
Industry Insight: Understanding of biopharmaceutical regulations and GMP is a plus
Technical Expertise:
o Low voltage controls (relays, safety circuits, drives)
o Devices and interface tech (sensors, IO modules, fieldbus, networking)
o PLC programming (ladder, function block, structured text)
o HMI/SCADA systems
Design & Communication Skills:
o Mechanical design using 3D CAD - SolidWorks preferred
o Building automation systems
o Strong verbal and written communication across cross-functional teams
o Project management and organizational skills
Cyber Awareness: Basic OT cybersecurity knowledge
