to join the team at Birmingham Airport for the overall management and the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of contracted airfield guarding and baggage screening operations. This role will support and report to the General Manager.



You will provide paramount security guarding and baggage screening services in line with the Department for Transport (DfT) and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requirements and Birmingham Airport specifications and By-Laws. This is a senior management position responsible for the contract delivery of specified security services.



This dynamic role will include thinking beyond the scope of the contract, to enhance the contract delivery strategy through engagement with both client and key stakeholders. Managing a designated site security team, ensuring that all contracted and temporary hours are fulfilled to the complete satisfaction of the clients.



The retention of the contract and security team is key to the business and through total quality management must be a primary objective of the Operations Manager.


Main Duties:





Manage and maintain security compliance to prevent any security breaches and emergency response incidents.



Ensure the correct and appropriate operation of security systems and procedures.



Implementing customer corporate policies and Codes of Practice as directed by the General Manager.



Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in particular with colleagues and senior managers.



Excellent management skills including decision-making, handling conflict, providing direction and vision.



Good time management and organisation skills able to work to deadlines.



Ability to prioritise, delegate and coordinate tasks.



Fully support the airfield security and baggage screening operation for the customer in line with DfT, CAA and client requirements.



Ensure the recruiting of sufficient resource in a timely fashion, and in accordance with all legislative requirements, to ensure that sufficient personnel are in post to meet operational demand.



Ensure the contracted security provision supports, and is delivered in accordance with, Birmingham Airport's Security Management System (SeMS) approach to security management.



To ensure the team discharge of their duties correctly in all emergency response situations.



Provide direction to and ensure the accountability of the security service teams (Hold baggage Supervisors and Security Duty Managers) to ensure that the operational delivery of the service is maintained to the highest agreed standard and to the complete satisfaction of the client.



Regularly inspect all administrative, Health and Safety and quality procedures.



Take detailed notes of all disciplinary/capability actions taken against employees, making sure that all such matters are first referred to the General Manager.



Provide the assurance of a professional and high quality security operation.



Monitor staff performance and appraise staff in line with company policy.



Ensure all contractual commitments are honoured and if there is any failure, be the first to advise the client and General Manager. Any complaints must be logged in accordance with the quality system and remedied in a timely and effective manner.



Understand and advise on any invoicing issues, credit note requirements and bad debts as well as processing Payroll.



Support the General Manager in any area that is deemed necessary, as required.



Provide assistance to all staff who have welfare requirements and assist in the vetting process to ensure that all security agents assigned to you comply with CAA requirements.



Ensure the team is constantly trained to meet leading industry practices.



Ensure that all contractual and legislative training requirements are met and that all certificates are renewed within the correct time frame.



Responsible for the delivery of all service streams within the scope of the contract.



Ensure that all personnel under your control work efficiently and maintain required standards.



Meet and exceed all SLAs and KPIs as detailed within the contract across all service lines.



Maximise financial performance to ensure budgets are achieved / exceeded and where appropriate, to provide recommendations to the General Manager where budgetary efficiencies could be implemented, without compromising legislative or contractual requirements.



In addition to this you will manage and coach our team of Duty Managers who oversee access to Airside Operations and ensure access is controlled in to the Critical Part. You will ensure they are leading the team of officers who are crucial to the successful operation of the Airport by monitoring and reporting on all aspects of the airside operational environment to ensure a safe and compliant airfield at all times.



We are looking for someone with experience of working at a UK airport, particularly in an airfield environment, who has an understanding of airside regulations and processes and the relationships between departments and business partners. We'd ideally like someone who has previously held an airside driving permit.




About you:




Proven supervisory capabilities or experience, with the ability to coach, develop, empower and performance manage a small team. Knowledge of the statutory (Airport Operating Instructions, Single Consolidated Direction) and airport operational documents with the ability to make decisions, often under pressure and unassisted, based upon interpretation of the relevant procedures or manuals. You'll have the ability to build strong professional working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. You will hold or be able to meet Birmingham Airport airside driver medical standards to maintain a full runway and manoeuvring area airside driving permit. A Full UK/EU manual driving license. * Flexible and able to meet the demands of working within a 24/7 operation with a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
