The National Piping Centre seeks to enrich lives through piping. The Bagpipe Shop is our specialist retail outlet offering a wide range of piping supplies, instruments, accessories, books, merchandise and gifts to both local and international customers.
Role Overview
As a Shop Assistant at The Bagpipe Shop, you will provide a friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful service to all customers. You'll support the day-to-day operations of the retail space, including serving customers, handling sales, stocking shelves, and ensuring the shop presents a welcoming and professional appearance at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver outstanding customer service in person, over the phone, and via email.
Handle sales transactions using the shop's EPOS system.
Advise customers on products including bagpipes, reeds, maintenance items, music books, and gifts.
Assist with stock control: unpacking deliveries, restocking shelves, and stocktaking.
Maintain cleanliness and presentation of the retail space.
Process online orders, including packing and dispatch.
Support promotion of shop products via social media or in-store displays, as required.
Keep up-to-date with new product ranges and piping developments.
Work collaboratively with other NPC departments to ensure excellent visitor experience.
Person Specification
Essential:
Friendly, helpful, and approachable manner.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Basic IT skills and confidence with till systems.
Attention to detail and organisational skills.
Willingness to learn about piping and the traditional music sector!
Desirable:
Knowledge of or interest in traditional Scottish music and piping.
Social media or content creation skills for retail promotion.
