Our Bakers must provide excellent capability in baking a variety of goods in a professional coffee shop environment. They will be efficient, attentive and anticipate customer needs, whilst being able to cope in a fast-paced retail cafe.
This is a part-time role to support our other baking staff, the Cafe and the bookshop throughout the week.
The 21 hours/week will be over 3 days, Mon-Fri and alternate Saturdays
.
Good level of flexibility and willingness to work hours as a relief baker and/or in the Cafe/Bookshop is required.
A good level of physical fitness and stamina will be required for this role, as you are on your feet most of the day and lifting/moving kitchen equipment and produce.
Faith Mission Cafes and Bookshops are neutral locations where members of the public can enquire about the Christian Faith in one to one conversations. The staff in all our cafes and bookshops may be asked to outline what the Christian Faith is and what Jesus has done for them on occasions if people enquire.
Essential Duties
Prepares baking products to high standards, maintains good levels of stock at all times and works as part of a strong Cafe team
The baker will execute, design and improve recipes, perform quality checks on ingredients and finished products, use icing, glazes, fillings, and decorations to enhance item presentation, and process orders from customers.
As a successful Baker/Cafe Assistant you will greet customers, answer questions, clean workstations and equipment, and perform other duties to ensure that customer needs are satisfied and the bakery is well-stocked and operating smoothly.
Be efficient and friendly at all times with a focus on food quality and customer satisfaction. You should be organized, decisive, attentive, and possess a strong understanding of baking techniques.
Ensures compliance with hygiene and health and safety legislation/guidelines
Maintains the cleanliness of all food preparation areas to the standards determined by law and organization policy
Detailed Roles and Responsibilities
Cooking/Baking
Estimate expected food consumption levels and organize preparation to meet demand with minimal wastage.
Operates and maintains all kitchen and Cafe appliances to ensure an efficient and safe working environment
Cleaning
Oversee/undertake cleaning of the kitchen and cafe area in accordance with Health and Safety Regulations and Guidance
Record and monitor cleaning and temperature records in accordance with legislation and internal policy. Take necessary action to prevent/manage issues from arising/developing
Reporting maintenance issues to the Manager, working with them to provide a solution as appropriate
Ensuring that all necessary risk assessments are completed and complied with
Cleans up after business hours as and when appropriate
Food Handling and Presentation
Oversee and undertake the preparation of the food and beverages served in the cafe
Oversee the presentation of food in any cabinets ensuring that all displayed food is attractive and fresh and that notice boards are up to date.
Preparing food in line with food hygiene guidelines.
Ensure any displayed food is done so in accordance with food hygiene guidelines.
Ministry and Evangelistic Outreach
When asked, be prepared to share a personal testimony of saving faith
Attend a short time of prayer and worship at the commencement of each day
Where pastoral care is required, offering prayerful concern with discretion and sensitivity
General
To act as the local representative of The Faith Mission in such a way as to project a good image and enhance our Cafe & Bookshop reputation.
To maintain the confidentiality of any information relating to the cafe, bookshops or The Faith Mission in general
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role and as advised by your line manager
Education And Qualifications
Food hygiene certificate level 2 (or willing to complete on appointment)
At least 5 GCSE's grade A to C
Vocational qualifications in catering/hospitality (desirable, but not essential)
Experience
At least 1-2 years experience of working in a food preparation/catering environment.
Involvement in the undertaking of all appropriate risk and hygiene assessments.
Competent in using appropriate kitchen equipment
The position is permanent with a 6 month probation period, also will be required set days and a rotation pattern to your shifts.
Good level of flexibility and willingness to work extra hours is expected.
Salary rate: 12.21/hour
NOTE: Baking skills are required for this role, we cannot consider candidates who do not have any baking experience.
