Preparation:
Read and interpret recipes, prepare equipment, and measure and weigh ingredients.
Production:
Mix ingredients, knead dough, shape products, and operate ovens to bake goods.
Quality Control:
Perform quality checks on ingredients and finished products, and ensure consistent portion sizes.
Maintenance:
Clean and maintain baking tools, equipment, and the work area.
Inventory:
Monitor stock levels, receive and store ingredients, and manage ordering supplies.
Compliance:
Adhere to food safety, hygiene, and health and safety regulations, including allergen laws.
Customer service (for some roles):
Prepare displays, serve customers, and potentially take orders.
Apprentice-specific duties:
Assist senior bakers with daily production, learn new techniques, and support the team to meet production schedules.
Skills and qualifications
Basic Skills:
Strong work ethic, timekeeping, and a willingness to learn.
Technical Skills:
Hand-eye coordination, knowledge of different baking processes (e.g., lamination, fermentation), and the ability to operate machinery.
