The duties and key responsibilities include:
Create a positive H&S culture across the Readymix concrete block manufacturing plant and ensure all suppliers, customers, visitors and staff comply with the Company Health and Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
Oversee the production planning process while optimising efficiency and resource utilisation.
Carry out all H&S risk assessments, arrange training, report near misses and/or non-conformances (ensuring that the appropriate corrective actions are implemented).
Maintain a high standard of organisation and housekeeping, applying the 5S principles and ensuring that all staff do the same.
Ensure weekly (i) clean-up of the plant and equipment and (ii) H&S inspections are carried out.
With support from the Operations Manager, recruit and develop the block manufacturing plant staff, (i) managing resource to ensure holidays, absence and seasonal peaks are adequately covered and (ii) addressing performance issues.
In liaison with the sales department, agree the weekly / daily output targets, and ensure they are achieved, managing availability of raw material & components, raising works orders and resolving any potential capacity issues through forward planning.
In liaison with the transport department, support the delivery of bagged product across the branch network.
Record daily production performance, including output and downtime.
Resolve downtime issues, liaising with the Maintenance Supervisor and Operations Manager as required.
Complete weekly stocktakes to ensure finished goods stock values are accurate.
Identify opportunities and agree action plans for improving efficiency, minimising waste and reducing costs.
Communicate efficiently with all members of the team providing them with clear instructions on production requirements, deadlines and quality of work.
Attend meetings and any other reasonable duties which may be required by the Company from time to time, as instructed by or under the direction of your immediate supervisor.
To become our Block Manufacturing Chargehand we are looking for the following skills, experience and attributes

Strong supervisory skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
Can Do positive attitude. Hands on mentality.
Experience with concrete and aggregates.
Ability to operate all mobile plant.
General knowledge of all machinery and equipment - and willing to share knowledge with team.
Ability to work in hot/humid and cold environments.
Appropriate level of fitness.
Must be IT literate.
The ability to plan, prioritise and organise own workload and that of the team.
Ability to work under pressure and to tight schedules.
Dispute resolution.
Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Must be self-motivated, have strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to solve problems at source.
Must possess good organisation skills and good time management.
Must be self-driven, genuine with a positive attitude and clear focus.
Must be sufficiently mobile and flexible to work beyond the call of duty to achieve results.
