These facilities constitute the core of the newly established Bartlett Manufacturing and Design Exchange, B-made. The primary aim of B-made is to incorporate a diversity of workshops into an integrated and cutting edge centre that supports teaching as well as advanced research activities in the School of Architecture. In parallel, B-made aims to reinforce the School's relationship with industry and associated disciplines as a national and international resource for innovation in design and manufacturing exchange.


About the role

As an Assistant Technician, you'll be a valued member of the B-made technical team, supporting the day-to-day operation of our world-leading workshop facilities at The Bartlett School of Architecture. You'll help deliver outstanding, customer-focused services to a diverse community of staff and students, working across analogue and digital fabrication environments including woodwork, metalwork and laser cutting. Your work will ensure equipment is maintained, safe and ready for use -- and that users feel supported, confident and inspired as they bring ideas to life. You will also contribute to wider workshop activities, including exhibitions, projects and the continued development of our cutting-edge facilities.


About you

You'll bring hands-on fabrication experience and a passion for helping others learn and succeed. Skilled in wood and metalworking equipment -- such as bandsaws, lathes, pillar drills, milling machines and welding tools -- you'll be comfortable guiding novice users and sharing safe, effective making techniques. Alongside your practical strengths, you'll have the ability to troubleshoot and support laser cutting operations, communicate clearly with a wide range of workshop users, and contribute to maintaining a safe, organised and collaborative environment. Whether through a degree, recognised apprenticeship or equivalent industry experience, you'll be ready to apply your technical skills in a vibrant and creative higher-education setting.
