Key Responsibilities:

Apply pipework fabrication and jointing techniques for various systems, including prefabricated and modular components, as well as natural gas distribution pipework. Understand welding procedures, processes, standards, and codes of practice required for undertaking industrial and commercial systems pipework. Understand and apply relevant safety legislation and safe working practices in building services engineering environments. Comprehend scientific principles related to building services engineering, including industrial and commercial systems, measurement, force and pressure, heat and power, materials, and electricity. Implement environmental protection measures to ensure effective resource use, minimizing waste, and adhering to energy, gas, and water legislation. Utilize resources effectively, including supervising work, producing risk assessments, method statements, and planning work programmes for self and small teams. Prepare work areas for the installation of industrial and commercial systems in new and existing sites.

Skills and Qualifications:

A solid understanding of safety legislation and codes of practice in building services. Ability to plan, organise, and undertake the installation of systems with consideration for cost, quality, safety, security, and environmental impact. Experience in preparing work areas for building services installations. Proficient in pipework fabrication and jointing techniques. Most candidates will hold English and Mathematics at Level 2 and Information Communications Technology (ICT) Level 1 upon entry. Additionally, all apprentices must achieve the Level 3 Heating and Ventilating Craftsperson qualification prior to undertaking the end-point synoptic assessment with an independent assessment organisation.
