Job Type:
Full-Time
Salary:
45,000 - 65,000, dependent on experience.
About Us:
We are a growing construction company undertaking domestic renovations, extensions, and occasional new builds in the Hindhead /Haslemere area. Our reputation is built on quality, integrity, and exceptional client service. With a strong and consistent demand for our services in the local area, we're looking for an experienced Building Surveyor to join our team and help manage the pre-contract side of our expanding project portfolio.
Role Overview:
As our Building Surveyor / Estimator, you will take ownership of the pre-contract phase - meeting clients, conducting surveys, preparing detailed scopes of work, and producing accurate cost estimates. You will play a key role in shaping projects from the first enquiry through to handover to the site team, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and client confidence at every stage.
This is a client-facing role suited to someone who is technically strong, commercially aware, and enjoys working closely with homeowners to develop and define their building projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Attend client meetings and site visits to assess requirements and provide professional advice.
Carry out measured surveys and prepare detailed scope of works, specifications, and supporting documentation.
Produce accurate and competitive estimates and cost plans for renovation, extension, and new build projects.
Identify potential risks, constraints, and value-engineering opportunities during the design and pricing process.
Prepare tender documents and assist in the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers.
Liaise closely with clients, designers, and the internal project management team to ensure smooth transition from pre-contract to delivery.
Monitor project progress, budgets, and timelines, proactively addressing any issues with the site team.
Ensure all proposed works comply with relevant building regulations and company quality standards.
Provide technical input and advice to clients throughout the pre-construction process.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a Building Surveyor, ideally within residential construction, renovations, or extensions.
Proven track record of producing accurate and detailed estimates/quotations for residential projects.
Excellent client-facing and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
Strong knowledge of building methods, materials, and current regulations.
Proven ability to produce detailed scopes of work, specifications, and accurate cost estimates.
Highly organised and methodical approach to documentation and reporting.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and ideally familiar with CAD or estimating software.
Relevant surveying or construction qualification preferred but not a requirement. (e.g., RICS accreditation or equivalent).
Full UK driving licence.
Due to the local nature of our projects, applicants must live within approximately 15 miles of Hindhead.
What We Offer:
A collaborative and supportive working environment.
Competitive salary and benefits package.
Company vehicle for site visits (following successful completion of 6-month probation period).
Opportunities for career progression and continued professional development.
A diverse range of interesting, high-quality local projects.
A chance to take a leading role in shaping and growing our business.
