The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be instrumental in driving significant, strategic growth for Obaby, specifically within our nursery furniture, seating, and bedding textile product lines. This role demands a strong commercial mindset to identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within key retail and e-commerce accounts that specialise in baby products.

This is more than a sales role; you will be crucial in shaping the future commercial direction of the company, focusing on:

Developing and executing a scalable, forward-looking growth strategy for the UK and beyond. Mentoring and evolving the sales and commercial team structure. Delivering tangible increases in revenue and long-term growth of Obaby's brand awareness.
Working Pattern & Location

This is a dynamic hybrid role requiring a flexible approach to maximise commercial success:

Fixed Days in the Obaby Office: Required days at our UK head office for strategic planning, team development, and cross-functional collaboration. On the Road: Significant time dedicated to travelling and meeting with key customers and buyers to secure and grow business.
Key Responsibilities

Commercial Strategy & Leadership: Define and execute a robust commercial strategy to achieve ambitious growth targets, focusing on market penetration and key account expansion within the baby and nursery retail space in the UK and internationally. Revenue & Brand Growth: The primary metrics for success are achieving increased revenue and the growth of Obaby's brand awareness and market share. Team Development: Play a vital role in the growth and development of the sales and commercial team, embedding a high-performance, growth-driven mindset across the business. Range & Collection Launch: Lead the successful launch and commercial placement of new nursery furniture collections, bedding designs, and baby seating ranges, securing significant initial orders across major accounts. Strategic Account Management: Build and nurture high-level relationships with senior buyers and decision-makers in target retail sectors (nursery retailers, furniture retailers, major online baby platforms). Commercial Negotiation: Lead high-value contract negotiations and promotional strategies to maximise sales volume and profitability of core baby and nursery product lines. Internal Collaboration: Work closely with the Design and Product Development teams, providing expert commercial insight to ensure new nursery collections are market-relevant and profitable. Performance tracking: Monitor performance and report on progress to management. Forecasting and promotions: Be instrumental in promotional activities and forecasting
Essential Requirements

Minimum of 5 years' experience in a business development, key account management, or commercial leadership role. Demonstrable track record of developing and executing growth strategies that resulted in significant revenue increases. Proven ability to mentor, coach, or lead a commercial or sales team is essential. Strong background in furniture, home furnishings, textiles, or the baby and nursery product sectors--experience with nursery products is a significant advantage. Exceptional commercial acumen, coupled with superior negotiation and presentation skills. Willingness to commit to the hybrid working model, balancing office-based strategy with extensive travel to meet customers.
