With the ambition of increasing our market share in the smoke ventilation industry, the company is now looking to bring on board a Business Development Manager to increase activities within the residential housing market sector, working across all system types, targeting Main Contractors, M&E Contractors and specifiers.
It will be the responsibility of the position to build strong customer relations with direct sales to meet strategic growth and revenue goals. About the role
We are seeking a Business Development Manager to join our growing team, with a focus on the sales and development of smoke ventilation and life safety systems. This is a pivotal role within the commercial team, responsible for generating revenue by identifying new business opportunities, cultivating strong client relationships, and promoting innovative, fully compliant smoke control solutions across the UK's construction and M&E sectors.
The role will initially be to work alongside our Head of System sales, for training and development from a Technical Sales Estimators role, allowing the successful candidate to gain a comprehensive understanding of our products, project processes, and Novenco's strategic approach to sales. Within 6-12 months the individual will progress into a full Business Development Manager role, managing client relationships and sales pipelines independently.
Development Path & Training
During the first 12 months, the individual will be expected to work a minimum of 2 days per week in the office, to receive structured training aligned with Novenco's sales methodology.
Close collaboration with our Engineering Department and Project Managers will ensure a deep understanding of system design, application, and project delivery.
Sales meetings will initially be attended alongside the line manager, with the goal of becoming fully competent in:
Estimating and tender writing
Presenting technical solutions
Managing post-tender meetings independently
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full sales cycle from initial enquiry through to contract negotiation and handover to project delivery.
Review enquiries for smoke ventilation systems and prepare detailed proposals in line with the project specification and current legislation.
Prepare cost calculations and prepare detailed proposals.
Following up on the proposal and ensuring the project is secured.
Providing market feedback.
Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within the construction, mechanical & electrical (M&E), and smoke ventilation sectors.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including consultants, architects, main contractors, developers, and fire engineers.
Understand client needs and provide tailored solutions in line with regulatory standards (e.g. BS EN 12101, BS EN 1366-8, ISO 21927-9).
Deliver technical presentations and sales proposals to clients, highlighting product capabilities, compliance, and value.
Collaborate with internal teams (Engineering, Projects, and Operations) to deliver high-quality client solutions
Attend industry events, exhibitions, and networking meetings to raise brand awareness and generate leads.
Maintain up-to-date CRM records and produce accurate sales forecasts and reports.
Stay current with industry trends, competitor activity, and changes in relevant legislation and standards.
Required Skills & Experience
Previous experience in technical sales, estimating, or business development within the construction or building services industry
Strong technical understanding of smoke control systems, mechanical ventilation, or life safety solutions.
Familiarity with industry regulations and standards (e.g. Approved Document B, BS EN 13501-4, SCA guidance).
Experience working with main contractors, consultants, and developers on large-scale projects.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence in a client-facing role
Proactive, organised, and commercially aware
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise workload effectively.
Full UK driving license and willingness to travel as required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel) and general business software
Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. BS EN 12101, BS EN 1366-8, ISO 21927-9, Approved Document B)
Experience in preparing tenders or quotations
Engineering or building services background
Experience using CRM systems and project management tools
