Role Overview

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities for the hire of shoring and temporary works equipment. This role focuses on building strong relationships with contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders, while expanding our presence across targeted markets and regions. The successful candidate will have commercial awareness and the ability to develop and implement sales strategies to achieve revenue targets. You will also work very closely with the depots and promote products and services we offer.

Key Responsibilities

Identify and pursue new business opportunities and drive growth Develop and manage relationships with groundworks contractors, main contractors, engineers, and consultants Promote the company's range of shoring, propping, and temporary works solutions Attend client meetings, site visits, and industry events to generate leads and build market presence Work closely with internal engineering, operations, and hire desk teams to develop compliant and cost-effective solutions Prepare and deliver sales presentations, proposals, and tenders Maintain accurate records of sales activity, pipeline, reporting and forecasts using CRM systems Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and upcoming projects Achieve agreed sales targets and contribute to overall business growth Ensure all commercial activity aligns with company safety, quality, and compliance standards
Key Skills & Experience

Essential:



Proven experience in business development or sales within construction, plant hire, or temporary works Strong understanding of shoring systems, ground support, or related equipment (or willingness to learn quickly) Excellent relationship-building and negotiation skills Ability to identify opportunities and convert leads into long-term customers Strong communication and presentation skills Commercially astute with a results-driven mindset Full UK driving licence

Desirable:



Background in shoring, formwork, groundworks, or civil engineering Experience working with Tier 1 & Tier 2 contractors Knowledge of temporary works design processes and safety requirements Familiarity with CRM systems and sales reporting
Personal Attributes

Proactive and self-motivated Professional and credible when dealing with senior stakeholders Technically curious with a strong focus on safety Organised, resilient, and able to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously
