The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities


From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.


It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.


In this role you will ensure that the Force Command Centre is capable of operating 24-hours per day, seven days per week, to implement any changes to these systems in a controlled manner and to provide help and guidance to all colleagues within the department.


This role leads the Business Systems Team, a multi-functional team that develops, establishes, adapts, optimises, and maintains systems and procedures within the Force Command Centre.


The role will manage the administration of software as a service (SAAS) systems that are owned or heavily used within the Force Command Centre, ensuring that all aspects of contact management and police deployment are effectively managed. This will require liaising with external suppliers, and internal stakeholders, setting the strategic direction for our system use, and delivering for the public.


Skills & Experience


The successful post holder will be educated to degree level or have considerable practical experience in a similar role.

Extensive and demonstrable senior management experience in similar roles, with a strong track record of optimising systems and processes, improving service delivery, managing costs, reducing risks, and enhancing customer satisfaction. Proven ability to manage services and lead multi-discipline teams in complex, matrixed environments. Skilled and confident stakeholder management, with a proven ability to influence and build trust at both operational and senior leadership levels. Detailed technical and analytical skills to hold in mind the current, complex technology and infrastructure to ensure the continuous availability of services to Force operations. Sound and sensitive management skills and awareness of user experience and satisfaction is essential in providing user support across a large and varied technology infrastructure, so that all users of the force's systems are provided with a prompt, effective and resolute support service. Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to engage with police staff, DDaT peers, and suppliers to ensure system availability, integration, and cost-effective support. Extensive and demonstrable project management and decision-making skills are needed in order to oversee operational and/or support activities, and to take action when operations or projects do not go to plan. The ability to stay abreast of developments in technology and how the implementation of new products or services could improve system performance or cut costs. Proven experience managing and working within a regulated business sector, in particular with regard to data protection, cybersecurity, and compliance standards. Operational and organisational strategic business continuity management experience (systems, processes, procedures, resources). The ability to oversee the service portfolio to ensure accuracy, strategic alignment, and business value. Experience in working across technical and non-technical teams, coordinating, supporting and delivering service transitions, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure service quality, compliance, and performance. Demonstrable experience in remaining abreast of the latest technology trends and best practices, ensuring the Force Command Centre remains competitive and efficient, and making formal recommendations to the Command Team for change and improvement.
