Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced butcher to join our team at Doafoods, a leading Afro-Caribbean grocery store. The ideal candidate will have expertise in handling a variety of meat products, including cuts specific to Afro-Caribbean cuisine. You will ensure that high-quality meat is prepared, displayed, and served while maintaining excellent hygiene standards and providing exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Meat Preparation and Cutting:
- Cut, trim, debone, and prepare meat according to Afro-Caribbean culinary standards and customer preferences.
- Specialize in preparing cuts specific to Afro-Caribbean dishes, such as goat, lamb, oxtail, and fish.
2. Customer Service:
- Assist customers with selecting meat products and provide recommendations based on their needs.
- Fulfill custom orders, ensuring accuracy and satisfaction.
3. Stock Management:
- Monitor stock levels and ensure meat products are properly displayed, stored, and rotated.
- Coordinate with suppliers to order fresh, high-quality meats.
4. Hygiene and Safety Compliance:
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all butchery tools, equipment, and work areas.
- Follow food safety regulations and store policies to ensure products meet health and quality standards.
5. Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with store staff to promote specialty items and assist in restocking other departments when necessary.
- Participate in training sessions to stay updated on Afro-Caribbean meat products and preparation techniques.
Qualifications and Skills:
Proven experience as a butcher, preferably in an Afro-Caribbean or multicultural grocery setting.
Knowledge of Afro-Caribbean meat cuts and preparation techniques.
Excellent knife skills and experience with butchery equipment.
Strong customer service skills with a friendly and approachable attitude.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle heavy lifting.
Familiarity with food safety regulations and practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Afro-Caribbean cooking traditions and spices is a plus.
Certification in meat cutting or food safety is compulsory
