The Role
We are looking for an experienced Production Buyer to join our team and play a key role in supporting site operations through the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and services.
You will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing construction materials in line with technical requirements and project timelines. The role also involves close collaboration with site managers, engineers, and suppliers to ensure continuity of supply and compliance with specification.
Key Responsibilities
Procure construction materials, plant, and consumables to meet project schedules.
Interpret technical drawings and specifications to determine material requirements.
Build and manage relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors.
Obtain and analyse quotations to ensure best value and quality.
Monitor stock levels, deliveries, and lead times to ensure materials arrive on site when required.
Identify opportunities for cost savings, improved quality, and supplier performance.
Assist in developing commodity strategies and maintain accurate procurement records.
Support implementation of purchasing systems and processes.
Work closely with the site teams to anticipate and respond to changes in demand.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Buyer in a construction or groundworks environment.
Strong understanding of construction materials, supply chains, and technical specifications.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and material schedules.
Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
Organised and proactive with excellent planning and communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with purchasing/MRP systems is an advantage.
Full UK driving licence.
