We've just been nominated for UK Publisher and UK Children's Publisher of the Year in 2025 by the British Book Awards, having previously won the latter in 2021.This is a group-level role, giving you the opportunity to work across both Wonderbly and Historic Newspapers, contributing to two highly creative and entrepreneurial businesses within the Penguin Random House family.


We're on the lookout for a hands-on, commercially savvy Buying & Supply Chain Manager to lead our end-to-end procurement and supply chain operations. You'll be the glue between product, design, logistics, and finance - keeping everything on track, on time, and on budget.This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment (think fashion or e-commerce), and knows how to balance the big picture with the finer details.

? What You'll Be Doing

New Product Development

Partner with Design and Trade/Marketing to bring new ideas to life - from initial design to go-live. Be the go-to person for operations throughout the development journey. Keep projects moving by clearly communicating timelines, key milestones, and who's doing what.
Make sure every product meets quality, commercial, and compliance standards before launch.

Stock Management

Take ownership of inventory planning and strategy - and make it better. Ensure the right stock is in the right place, at the right time. Manage demand planning in line with the wider product and trading calendar. Keep a close eye on slow-movers and over/understock issues - and suggest action. Oversee stock counts and work with the warehouses to keep everything in check. + Set up and manage regular stock reporting to flag potential out-of-stocks, highlight variances to expected inventory levels, and support proactive decision-making.

Budget & Cashflow

+ Own the supply chain budget and make sure we're spending smart. + Keep tabs on upcoming supplier payments and commitments.
+ Work closely with finance to maintain visibility on procurement-related cash flow.

Look for ways to save without sacrificing quality or delivery times.

Sourcing & Commercials

+ Source and negotiate with suppliers globally to get the best deals and terms. + Build strong, long-term supplier relationships - including managing contracts, payment terms, SLAs and invoicing.
+ Track performance using clear KPIs and be quick to address any issues.

Stay ahead of supply chain risks and put contingency plans in place.

Finance & Forecasting

+ Team up with Trade and Sales to build rolling forecasts and procurement plans. + Turn sales data into clear, actionable buying decisions.

Share regular reporting on performance, trends, and variances to keep stakeholders in the loop.

Critical Path & Project Management

Own the critical path from buying through to delivery. Keep projects on time and aligned with key trading dates and seasonal launches. Use project management tools to track progress and flag risks early. Bring the right teams together to keep things moving smoothly.

B2B Shipping

+ - Manage global and domestic B2B shipments, ensuring everything gets where it needs to be, when it needs to be there. - Work closely with freight partners, customs agents, and warehouse teams.
- Stay on top of international shipping rules, paperwork, and Incoterms.
- Maintain and evolve processes for large-scale customer orders and shipping compliance.

What We're Looking For

4+ years' experience in a buying, supply chain or procurement role Background in a fast-paced e-commerce or fashion business (or both!) Strong negotiation and supplier relationship skills Data-driven, with great forecasting, planning and financial understanding Confident managing critical paths and complex projects Clear communicator who thrives in a cross-functional team
Bonus: experience with international logistics, customs, and trade compliance
