Job Summary

We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented CAD Designer with experience in wood based fabrication and set building to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer-aided design and be proficient in various CAD software applications. This role involves creating detailed designs, schematics, and models for construction projects, ensuring accuracy and adherence to specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for scenic and stage set construction. Develop

production and fabrication drawings

for workshop teams, ensuring all designs are practical and build-ready. Create

CNC toolpaths

and files using

VCarve Pro

(and other software as needed). Work closely with carpenters, project managers, and workshop staff to resolve design challenges and optimise build efficiency. Generate cutting lists, material take-offs, and assembly diagrams for timber, plywood, and other sheet materials. Update and maintain design files, drawing standards, and project documentation.

Skills & Experience

Proficiency in

AutoCAD

,

SketchUp

,

SolidWorks

, or similar CAD software. Hands-on experience with

VCarve Pro

for CNC file preparation and toolpath generation. Strong understanding of

woodworking, joinery methods,

and

construction techniques

for scenic or stage builds. Familiarity with

CNC routers

and digital fabrication workflows. Excellent attention to detail, spatial awareness, and practical problem-solving skills. Previous experience in

set construction, theatre, film, exhibition, or events fabrication

is highly desirable.
