The Role
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented CAD Designer to join our team. You'll work closely with our in-house design team to create and adapt technical drawings using Fusion 360, primarily for glass-based products.
This role involves translating design briefs and sketches into precise digital models and bring designs to life, contributing to the development of innovative new products, supporting the prototyping and fabrication process and making alterations to already existing designs. The ideal candidate will be based locally and work from our studio in Tain.
Main Duties
Predominant duties include:
Creating 2D and 3D technical drawings based on specifications from designers using Fusion 360
Interpret design concepts and convert sketches and verbal instructions in to detailed CAD drawings
Modify existing designs to reflect changes in design or specifications
Collaborate closely with studio directors Brodie Nairn and Nichola Burns on new designs
Maintain version control - track changes, revert to previous versions, collaborate without overwriting work and manage files sent to clients / stakeholders
Conduct design reviews
Help create technical presentations
Operate software - specifically Fusion 360
Perform technical calculations - Incorporate basic engineering calculations (e.g., dimensions, tolerances, material properties) into designs.
Support prototyping and fabrication by providing CAD files and guidance for 3D printing and other fabrication processes
Check all designs for accuracy, functionality, and compliance with design requirements
Work Experience/Requirements
Proficiency in CAD software - Fusion 360
Proven experience as a CAD Designer or Technician
Strong understanding of engineering principles and design practices.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable:
Experience operating 3D printers
An awareness of the basics of glass working processes
Knowledge of illustrator or similar vector graphic applications
Knowledge of moulding processes
